Cinna sat at the edge of her bed, reading a book she had recently gotten from the library. It was a sequel to one she had read previously, but nothing she was too interested in. At this point she only continued reading the series to pass the time.
She turned the page, another chapter finished. One mediocre at best. She started to read the next before her phone went off.
Cinna rolled her eyes and set down her book. It was most likely her parents asking her to take on another shift at the bakery, since no one else texted her.
She picked up her phone and checked the notification.
Her eyes widened a little when she saw it was from Dorito.
It had been at least a couple of weeks since she had talked to him last. He went from constant texting a few times every day, and randomly checking in on her at work, to nothing. And a week of not talking was very long, knowing him. Cinna had just figured he finally moved on from trying to get along with her.
She opened the message and read it.
'Hey Cinna! I was wondering if you would mind coming over to my house tomorrow around say- four? If that works for you of course!! -Memey'
It was a bit odd to say the least. Dorito knew she wasn't the type to go over to his house often. And not only that, why did he sign the text with his name?? Did he really think it had been so long that she erased his contact info from her phone?
She sighed then texted back. A simple 'ok' was all she replied. She didn't want him to think she was excited to see him or anything. Which she was. Well, she wouldn't ever let herself admit that, not even to herself, but she was indeed a little excited to finally talk to him again. The night passed fairly quickly but the next day, on the other hand, did not.
It felt almost excruciating as Cinna waited for even three to arrive. She was working in the bakery of course, so that didn't help at all passing the time.
People came and went, ordering bread and giving curious glances at the additude of the cinnamon pastry. Though that wasn't any different than the usual. Cinna didn't even remember a time where she was kind whilst working at the cash register. Her parents were probably trying to find someone to take her spot so everyone wasn't so unnerved by the unkind staff. Which wasn't a problem for Cinna, in fact she'd probably love it if she didn't have to sit at the counter asking the same questions to the same people every day.
Cinna's interest peaked when she saw a familiar orange triangle walk in. She raised her eyebrows in surprise, she didn't expect him to come in today, especially since they were already meeting up later.
Upon seeing her, Memey looked almost panicky (which tbh wasn't unusual for him). He quickly regained composure though and walked to the register.
"Hi- Uh- I would like to get a box of cookies and- two baguettes- the really big ones if you have those in stock-"
Cinna moved over to the farther part of the counter, grabbing a couple of the baguettes that were clearly displayed in a basket. She wanted to say something about later, but decided against it. When she put the bread into a paper bag and went over to the cookies she couldn't help but make a snarky remark.
"So, too lazy to make cookies yourself?" She teased, starting to put a few into a box for him. Memey looked somewhat embarrassed all the sudden, and almost guilty.
"No- no- actually you know what I'm sorry just scrap the cookies I just want the bread-"
Cinna stopped abruptly, looking at Memey as if she misheard him.
"You sure..?" She asked, changing her tone only a slight bit so she didn't seem AS mean.
"Yeah- J-just the bread, thanks."
Cinna stood for a moment, before putting down the cookies and returning to the register, where she had also placed the baguettes.
"Alright that'll be three seventy five."
Memey swiftly paid, barely making eye contact with Cinna, which bugged her a bit but she didn't admit it.
"So... see ya later then" Cinna said after Memey finished paying. Memey gave a small smile, and nodded, before grabbing the bag of bread and leaving.
