One thing about myself I don’t like, I mean there a lot of things I don’t like about myself. I could maybe make a book about the things that I don’t like about me. Anyway, that one thing is, I tend to overthink a lot about everything. Basically, that’s my problem. I assume the worst about the situation. That’s something I’m unable to change no matter what. Even what I think about my brother is something I’m not confirmed about. But still, again I assumed.

I was playing with Steven, the little boy. And then out of nowhere, I hear a horrible cry. I tuned to look around and saw that his mother got hit with a cricket ball. I was like “What? Who? How? When? Did that happen? Now here’s the thing, I can’t stand blood at all. Especially in large amounts. I panic a lot which is why I can’t be a doctor.

His father: “Oh my god what happened here?! Let’s quickly take you to the hospital.”

Lucy: “Yes please do.”

His father: “Come on everyone, hurry it up.”

I took Steven in my arms and raced to the car. I’m sure his mom was in brutal pain and I hoped that they would reach in time. But as we did reach the car, there was just one tiny problem. This kid wasn’t letting me go at all.

Steven: “I’m not going without my sister. She needs to come with me or I won’t go either.”

I was thinking at that moment, “What’s going on here exactly?” and I needed to get him to go. But all of a sudden, this boy now wants me to come. His brother on the other hand, wasn’t being helpful at all.  He was pulling and dragging him. As if that was going to help in the situation at all.

His brother: “Come on Steven!! Quit being such a baby. Can’t you see mom is hurt right now?!”

Steven: “I’M NOT GOING WITHOUT MY SISTER!!”

His brother: “SHE ISN’T EVEN YOUR REAL SISTER!!”

Steven: “SHE’S 1000 TIMES BETTER THAN YOU!!”

Lucy: “Okay boys cut it out now. And you can’t just snatch him like that and say all of that to him. He’s just a child.”

His father: “She’s right. Lucy, I’m so sorry to ask but could you please come with us?”

Lucy: “Yes sure no problem.”

I sat in the car with Steven in my lap. I was thinking to myself, “What just happened all of a sudden? This kid doesn’t like me that much right? Were the 2 times I played in my life so valuable to him? But I knew this much, I couldn’t break this kid’s trust and also had to be there for him as much as possible. I know that feeling very well and I don’t want him to go through that too. Feeling lonely inside is the feeling that breaks one the most sometimes.

As we reached the hospital, the parents rushed into the hospital and so did his brother. I got out with Steven, who still wasn’t letting me go. They took the mother into the emergency room and we stayed outside. We waited for any news or information. Steven was still with me and wasn’t letting go and I didn’t mind that. I’m sure the child was afraid.

Steven: “What if something bad happens to mommy?”

Lucy: “I’m sure she will be fine. Also because mothers are very strong people.”

Steven: “So she will be fine, right? Will the doctors be able to save her?”

Lucy: “Of course I’m sure they are trying their best to help your mom to get better.”

After some time, they came out and told us everything was fine. She needed stitches and that was all.

Steven: “Mommmyyyy~~”

His mother: “My baby Steven, are you okay?”

Seeing Steven and his mother, they had such a beautiful relationship.

His father: “Thank you so much Lucy for coming with us and taking care of Steven.”

His mother: “Yes thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. We would like you to come for dinner at our house, please. As a thank you.”

Lucy: “Oh no it’s totally okay I didn’t do anything much.”

His father: “Actually you have…….Steven is very much attached to you. Since the first time you have played with him, he has always been talking about you and even earlier and now, he couldn’t let you go.”

His mother: “This is why you would be an amazing babysitter.”

Lucy: “I would happily accept that. So Steven what do you say?”

Steven: “I say yes, please. That would be great if you took care of me.”

Lucy: “Sounds great then.”

I took the mother’s phone number and she texted me their house address. They wouldn’t stop talking about the dinner and so I had no choice but to agree to it. Fate has it’s ways then, I guess.

We all went back together and I wanted to stay a bit more at the park for some fresh air. So they dropped me off over there. They were asking me about 100 times if I was sure I wanted to go there instead of home. But I didn’t want to go back home just yet. It was just too boring back home.

I reached the park and then heard someone’s voice that to me sounded familiar.

?: “Ohh Hii Lucy. It’s been a while.”

I turned around to see who it was and saw my life flash before my eyes.

?: “What’s the matter? Aren’t you happy to see me?”

Lucy: “You’d wish I was, Amy.”

Amy: “Oh that’s sad to hear. So how’s life going after leaving me?”

Lucy: “I don’t have anything that I want to say to you anymore. I didn’t leave you without a reason. Because of what happened, you left me no choice.”

Amy: “Oh come on don’t be so sensitive chill a little, will you?”

Lucy: “Amy I’m warning you if you come near me again, it won’t be nice for you. And so what if I’m sensitive? At least I’m not heartless like you.”

Amy: “Watch what you say, Lucy.”

Lucy: “For your kind information, I’m not afraid of you anymore and I’m saying this for the last time. Get lost and never appear again in my life.”
