"You all right? You all right?" "Wait, wait, wait! Where are you going?" "We don't have time!" "Come on! Get out of here!" "Cranks! We got Cranks!" "Gotta move! Not safe out here, kid!" "Got a swarm to the flank!" "Go, kid! Go, go!" "Set a perimeter! Hold them back on the right side!" "Come on, kids, let's go! Let's go! Move it! Come on! Keep moving! Keep moving!" "Tell him to take off! We're clear!" There was a lot of yelling and it was hard to tell what was going on and who was saying what. "You kids doing all right? Sorry about all the fuss. We had ourselves a bit of a swarm", a man told us. "Who are you?", I questioned , grabbing Thomas' arm. " I'm the reason you're all still alive. It's my intention to keep you that way. Now, come with me. We'll get you kids squared away. You can call me Mr. Jansen. I run this place. For us it is a sanctuary, safe from the horrors of the outside world. You all should think of it as a way station. Kind of a home between homes. Watch yourselves", Jansen explained. There is something off about him. "That mean you're taking us home?", Chuck asked hopefully. "A home of sorts. Sadly, there wouldn't be much left of wherever you came from. But we do have a place for you. A refuge, outside the Scorch, where WICKED will never find you again. How does that sound?", he told us. There's just something so weird about him. I can feel it. Something just isn't right about this guy. "Why are you helping us?", I asked cautiously. "Let's just say the world out there is in a rather precarious situation. We're all hanging on by a very thin thread. The fact that you kids can survive the Flare virus... makes you the best chance of humanity's continued survival. Unfortunately, it also makes you a target, as no doubt by now you've noticed. Beyond this door lies the beginning of your new lives. First things first...let's do something about that smell", he said, pushing us toward the showers. Teresa and I were alone while the boys went to another room to shower. We got out of our old gross clothes and I walked underneath the warm water of the shower. "it feels so nice", I smiled, "the water in the glade was cold and barley even worked." I made sure I washed myself well considering I hadn't showered in a while and I wanted to be clean. I ran my hands through my hair as the soap washed out. "you know, this doesn't seem too bad", she said. "yea but I don't know if i'm just being paranoid but something feels off." She just shrugged as I turned off the shower and wrapped the towel around my body. I stared at myself in the mirror for a second before grabbing the new clean clothes that they left
us and pulling them on. It felt nice to actually wear something clean. I wore a black crop top, grey jeans and a blue flannel hoodie/jacket (idk..btw if you don't like the outfit just think of something). I left my hair to dry before I walked out of the room, making sure to get out quickly so no one saw Teresa because that would honestly be weird. Just as I began walking down the hall, the door across the girls bathroom opened and there stood Thomas. He looked at my eyes before his eyes wandered over my body. I just awkwardly stood there before he spoke up. "you look pretty", he grinned. "thanks. You look good too". I mentally face palmed. My face had turned a scarlet color as I stared at the ground. He grabbed my hand and brought me back to the lab as everyone started flooding out of the showers. Now we all sat in chairs or ran on treadmills. "All right "Oh, man!" "Feels great!" "Frypan, how you feel over there?" "Wait, what is that?", I questioned as one of the people shoved a needle into me and injected something into me. Thomas also looked confused and nervous. "Just a little cocktail. Calcium, folate, vitamins A through Z. Pretty much everything you've been deprived of out there. Try to relax." "Sure you got enough there?" "Evening, Dr. Crawford." "Good evening." "How are the new arrivals holding up?" "So far, so good." "All right." Teresa sat on a bed far away as the lady made her way toward her. "And you must be Teresa", she said, closing the curtain. "Thomas?", Jansen asked. "Yeah?" "Come with me, please." Thomas followed Jansen and they walked out of the lab so I went to sit next to Newt. I placed my head on his shoulder. "you tired?", he asked. "mhm", I hummed, too tired to even be sarcastic. Chuck came and wrapped his arms around me. "uh Chuck.. I uh have something to tell you", I told him. He looked up at me confused. "uh ok? What is it?" "uh in your sister. I had these sorta flashbacks and uh..you're my brother", I smiled. At first he was shocked but as soon as he understood he hugged me even tighter. "i'm so happy you're my sister", he smiled. "i'm happy to be your sister", I giggled, booping his nose. "do you like Thomas?", Chuck blurted out. "uh i-" "answer it truthfully." "yes", I whispered. "aww I knew it! You guys would be a cute couple", Newt smiled. "yea...do you know when we can sleep?", I complained."yea tonight." I groaned but just sat with Newt and Chuck, talking about random things when Minho came over as we waited for Thomas to come back which didn't take long.
