ANTHRO
I blinked my eyes trying to keep myself awake. I was dead tired, no pun intended, and all of the business talk was beginning to sound like a bedtime story to me. I was being bored to death, what a contradiction. Gabriel and the others though refused to shut up about plans and money. We were some of the wealthiest around. Why we needed more, I have no idea. Why we needed to all get together and talk about it, I have no idea. We didn’t even need more, we wanted it. We wanted to be able to rub it in the others face, let it only be more by a penny the man is still richer than you.
“Enough business talk for the evening,” Hugh said. He looked just about on the verge of passing out himself.
Gabriel nodded.
“Thank you,” I muttered.
The men chuckled.
“Where is Cara?” Damien asked. “Shouldn’t she be here during these discussions?”
Gabriel shook his head. “She’d slit her throat if I made her sit through these things,” he chuckled. “She’s up stairs sleeping still I believe.”
“It seems to me you do not try and keep her submissive anymore. She’s as free as any of us.” Martin chimed.
“Well she is a vampire,” Kamen said looking over at Martin.
“Half,” he said. He didn’t hide the disgust on his face as he hissed the words.
Gabriel only gave a small smirk. “She is still a vampire. Royal, which means she is higher than most full vampires.”
Hugh nodded smiling. “Tis true.”
“He has a point,” I nodded in agreement.
“She isn’t a full blood. She is not royal. By marriage? That doesn’t mean anything. You aren’t married yet Gabriel, and if I may say so it is going to stir up controversies and bring you trouble.”
“You act as if I care,” Gabriel chuckled in response. “Trouble. Trouble will bring itself upon the people who start it, especially if it is targeted anywhere near me. Trust me, try to cause me trouble and it’ll turn around and hit you.” He tone was threatening almost, and the way that Martin’s face fell told me he took it that way.
I couldn’t help but smirk.
Gabriel smiled and leaned back in his chair as the tall double doors opened. Cara slipped into the room in her glowing glory. She looked radiant alive. She almost glided across the floor with gracefulness and beauty-
I cut off my thoughts and looked anywhere else.
“How did you sleep?” Gabriel asked lowly, a small smile played on his lips as he took one of her hands she had rested on his shoulders and kissed it.
My body went rigid as I rooted myself to my chair and denied my body access to stand up and rip off his head. How dare he kiss her? She was mine!
“Fantastic,” she smiled back at him.
The way the were looking at each other made bile rise in my throat and my head spin. How could she love this monster? He killed her, beat her, humiliated her, broke her-
Everything you had done to her, and then some. A voice broke into my head.
My head snapped over to Kamen who was looking at me with a disappointed expression. He gave his head a small shake before he rose.
“Please excuse me,” he smiled and gave a small bow before exiting the room swiftly. I watched and he ran his arm over Cara’s shoulder, reassuringly, as he passed her. They exchanged small smiles and he closed he doors behind him.
