Chapter 3: The Proposal

It was a bright and cheerful morning. Suman had woken up with a mild headache but still her mood was very jovial. Kanchan was pleased seeing her behavior. She told her that their Dadu had went alone for the jog since she was down with fever and that she should get ready for school. She then asked Suman why she was feeling so happy to which Suman replied that it was just because of her last night's dream. Kanchan then gave a sly smile to which Suman gave her a questioning look.

K (in a teasing tone) – So now Ms. Tiwari is dreaming too huh? I guess neighbour handsome has now invaded both your heart and your dreams.

S (looking for a pillow in anger) – Kanchan! Stop it!

K – He can call you Sumo, he can make you fall in love and he can be in our room till 2 a.m. in the night but I can't even tease you?

S – Huh? What do you mean by be in our room till 2 a.m.?

K – Don't you remember anything about last night?

S – Yeah, I do. Shravan dropped me home, I told you about it then I was down with fever due to the rain and you took care of me. That's it.

K – Don't you remember what happened afterwards?

S – No Kancha... Tell me. Don't create suspense.

K – Okay! You sit here (she made her sit on the bed and started narrating). After I got to know that you were down with fever, I started to take care of you. Then suddenly you started taking Shravan's name repeatedly. Your fever was going up so finding no other option I called him up. He sounded sleepy but when he came to know about your health, he came to our house through the balcony in a jiffy.

S – What do you mean by balcony? I have told him many times to not come from there but he just doesn't listen. Was he hurt or something?

K – Aww. My sister is so in love. And no, he wasn't hurt. He was just worried for you and so he came. He kept taking care of you till 2 in the night and only went away after your temperature was down.

As Kanchan was done, Suman was feeling happy but was also scared thinking if she had said something wrong to Shravan in her sleep. She thought of calling him up but decided against it. She went to her balcony to see if Shravan was there but to her dismay, he was not. She then got ready for school and waited for her bus. She hoped to find Shravan there but again he was not. In the bus journey too, Suman kept looking outside for his bike but he was not there. Her wide smile had turned to a frown, after getting no opportunity to see him. In her class, she kept waiting for Shravan and finally he came up just before the class was going to start. She tried to talk to him but he pretended to look for some book in his bag. After the class commenced, Suman again tried to talk to him in between but he stopped her saying that he was concentrating. Suman became frustrated by his demeanor and then thought that she would wait till the break time.

During the break time, Suman saw Shravan sitting with his friends and went to sit beside him. She tried to speak to him but he ignored her. After being annoyed by him, she pinched his arm and he yelped in pain.

Sh – Sumo! What is this? Why are you pinching me?

S (she pinches him again and he gave her a frustrated look) – You deserve it. Why are you ignoring me? I am trying to talk to you since morning but you just keep avoiding me.

Sh – I was not avoiding you. You are just impossible. I was the one who came to your room at midnight just because you were down with fever. And what kind of reward are you giving me?
