Chapter 2: Fever

It was in the nightfall when the whole Tiwari family had returned back home from the wedding. Damru had informed them that Suman had eaten her food and was asleep. Kanchan went to her room quietly and to her surprise found Suman wide awake sitting on her table drawing something. Kanchan then decided to have some fun with her so she came from behind and decided to frighten her, but to her dismay she was outsmarted by Suman. She kept her drawing book upside down and then had hit Kanchan with a pillow.

K – Ouch!

S – I had heard your footsteps. You can't outsmart an army girl.

K – Shravan is right. You are Sumo!

S – Hey! Don't call me that.

K – Why? Is only Shravan allowed to call you that?

S – I allow him because...

K – Because?

S – Because he just won't stop calling me Sumo. And I don't want others to call me by it now.

K – Why don't you admit? Just say it clearly that only he is allowed to call you Sumo because you love him.

S (threw another pillow at her face) – Stop it Kancha!

After some more fights and arguments, Suman told Kanchan about her day and the auto incident which made her meet with more teasing. Kanchan constantly asked her to tell him about her feelings but she refused saying that she was scared of losing her friendship with him. Kanchan then dropped the topic, not wanting to push Suman into something for which she was not ready. They then went to sleep.

Around midnight, Kanchan woke up feeling thirsty but found Suman shivering. She touched her forehead and found it to be burning hot. She quickly fetched a thermometer and was shocked to find her down with a fever of 101 °F. She tried to look for some medicine but could not find any. Kanchan then covered Suman with a blanket and decided to go with the conventional way. She brought up some cold water and a cloth and placed it on Suman's forehead in order to bring her temperature down. After some time, Kanchan found Suman murmuring in her sleep. She went near her ear and heard her chanting Shravan's name again and again. Kanchan was amused by this but seeing her condition getting worsened, she decided to call Shravan up.

Shravan was in a deep slumber. He had picked up her phone and sounded sleepy and tired but when she told him about Suman's health, he woke up with a jolt. She asked him if he could come over through the balcony and he readily agreed since he was extremely worried for Suman. He came there in a flash which amused Kanchan. She was happy for her sister and then told Shravan about her fever, her temperature and her name chanting. Shravan saw a worried and a sleepy expression on Kanchan's face so he asked her to go back to sleep and assured her that he would take care of her sister. He then sat beside Suman and heard her chanting his name that too with a worried expression. He stroked her hair and went near her ear and spoke gently.

Sh – I am here only Sumo. Don't worry. I am always there for you.

S (murmured in her sleep)– Don't leave me.

Sh – I won't and I can never leave you.

With this the worried expression on Suman's face had been replaced with a small smile. Shravan then took Suman's hand in his and rubbed her knuckles with his thumb. As he was removing his hand, Suman instinctively clutched his hand leaving him smiling. He then used his free hand and applied the damp cloth on Suman's forehead. After an hour or so, he used a thermometer to check her temperature and heaved a sigh of relief as he saw her temperature going back to normal.

He then called Bunty in order to ask him to bring him a ladder but accidently dialled Suman's number. He tried to cut it but his phone hung. Suman's phone then started ringing and he quickly took her phone to cut the call, but was met with a surprise. He found that Suman had saved his number as Shravan ❤. This made him blush furiously as he remembered that he too had did the same but, this was not all. He then was met with yet another surprise when he saw Suman's wallpaper. It was his and her picture from Aneesh's party (picture in the media box). This made him smile more widely if that was even possible.

During all this Kanchan again woke up and saw the time to be 2 a.m. She reached out to Shravan from her bed only and asked him about Suman's condition. He after containing his smile (and blush) told her that Suman was now fine and he was going to leave in a few minutes. He then removed his hand and she frowned in her sleep making him chuckle. He cupped her face and kissed her forehead making her smile again. He kept staring at her for a while and gently stroked her hair. Suman again murmured something in her sleep so he went near her to hear it and was left awestruck.

S – You are very special to me Shravan. No one can make me as happy as you do.

Sh (He again kissed her forehead at this and spoke) – You too are the most special person in my life and no one can take your place.

S – I know and I won't let anyone take what's mine.

This left Shravan numb. He was on cloud nine after hearing her confession but was now in deep deliberation whether his feelings were reciprocated or not but what made him sure was Suman's drawing book. As he was leaving, he found it laid upside down and when he turned it, he was met with the most beautiful surprise of his day. He discovered that Suman had drew a picture of them with her head on his shoulder. It was the exact same scene as that in the auto. Shravan was now fully assured that his feelings were reciprocated. He now decided to confess and told Bunty the same. Bunty was feeling ecstatic for him but was also frustrated as Shravan was not letting him sleep. He was jumping exuberantly like a kid who got his favourite candy after a lot of hard work. He kept planning what he will do the next day and how he will confess. Bunty tried to make him sleep but sleep was nowhere near Shravan Malhotra who was now going to confess his feelings to Suman Tiwari. He was both happy as well as scared about what was going to happen the next day after his confession.
