Sugawara looked at the timer on his wrist as the seconds ticked down. In only a few blinks of an eye he'd finally meet his soulmate. Would it be a guy or a girl? Would their breath stink?

His mind ran wild and it led to him tripping over his own feet, but before he could crash to the floor, he felt a strong grip on his arm as he was pulled up. The numbers now all read zero as his gaze met a pair of almond-colored ones. He immediately recognized the older man with poorly bleached hair and screamed.

"Suga, why are you so frightened?" Ukai grinned. "You look as if you've seen a ghost!" The gray-haired boy ripped his arm away and turned to run but found himself falling down a dark hole in the space where linoleum flooring had once been. He reached out for him once more, preferring the company of his former volleyball coach to death, but discovered he was too late as he fell farther down the black abyss.

Falling...

Falling...

Falling...

Suga sat upright in his bed, panting as sweat trickled down his forehead. He ripped the navy blue covers from off of his legs and stole a glance towards the digital clock that sat on his nightstand. The numbers glowed 4:02 AM in bright red, illuminating the otherwise dark room. He sighed and sat upright, slapping a palm to the side of his face.

The nightmares had been going on for two months now. Ever since one of his close friends, Asahi, pointed out how close he was to meeting his special someone, anxiety had infiltrated his mind and he hadn't stopped worrying about it since. The people in his nightmares were always different, but the nightmares always ended the same: With Suga falling to his death after rejecting whoever his soulmate was this time.

So far, his soulmate had been Ukai, Nishinoya, Asahi, Tsukishima, and even Kiyoko, but not once had they been the one person he was hoping would appear, to his disappointment.

Sugawara stood from his bed and went to the bathroom, locking the door behind him. He approached the sink, turning one of the knobs, and splashed his face with cold water, hoping that it would snap him out of his thoughts, but it didn't work. His fear of the unknown was much stronger than the frigidness that he had struck upon his face.

He took a glance in the mirror, noting the purplish bags beneath his eyes and left the bathroom, getting ready for the school day, even when he could be trying to sleep for another hour or two instead.

With a half-eaten bagel in his mouth and a hot chocolate in hand, Suga sluggishly made his way to his first class of the day. It had been weeks since he had gotten a decent amount of sleep. Every night he was jerked awake by the same nasty dream of discovering who his soulmate was only to find out that it wasn't the person he had expected-or hoped it to be.

It was a common thing to have sleeping problems when a person was counting down the days until they would meet the "one," but it made the boy wish that his timer had counted down years ago, when he was in middle or even high school; It had for his friends and former teammates, Asahi and Nishinoya after all.
