Meeting The Family

It was a wintry day in Pleasantview. The snow had fallen recently and with that, had come time to get ready to celebrate the Winter Holidays.

Every weekend, all the local children would compete in who would make the biggest snowman in the park. The adults were looking for the recipes and shopping online for gifts, organising events during the festivities.

The students were looking forward to Christmas break. The younger ones were writing letters to Santa Claus. And the older ones were helping the adults in the family to prepare for the annual Christmas contests that were going to be held around town.

But one young woman was not doing either of those things. Instead, she was planning on introducing her boyfriend to her extensive family.

She looked forward to the day the family would meet him. However, she was also anxious. And how could she not be? What if her family didn't approve of him? Especially because of their age gap? As adults, it was fine that they were dating. But had they met the previous year, when she had still been a schoolgirl, her family would have not been pleased.

This young woman was Esmeralda Goth. She was one of the oldest children of the Goth family. And now she was a student at the University.

Her boyfriend was Cyd Roseland. He was a dog lover and had his own dog Porthos that he had competed with many times in his life. They had met the summer before Esme had left for University. And since then, they have gone on as many dates as possible, had seen every film in the cinema, had dined out in every possible restaurant. And now their relationship was more serious than ever.

There was, however, one more step before possible engagement and then marriage if it was in the looks of the future.

Esme had to introduce Cyd to her family. That was making her fret during a Skype conversation with her boyfriend while packing her luggage. She had turned on her camera and Cyd could see how she was pacing back and forth in between putting her clothes in the suitcase.

"Babe, it will be just fine," He tried to calm her down.

She shook her head before she began, "No, you don't understand. You're lucky. You didn't get to do this," Unfortunately, Cyd was an orphan and he had no one to introduce his girlfriend to, "So in a way that kind of makes you lucky. But if my family doesn't like you, then not only our relationship is over, but we cannot even think of our future together."

Cyd wished he was right there with her; to hold her hands and to whisper sweet nothings in her ear. Alas, unfortunately, they could only watch each other on camera. Still, they found it better than nothing.

With that, the conversation ended as both of them had to continue packing. In no time, the in-love birds would see each other at the train station of Pleasantview.

The journey by train on the next day couldn't have gone by any slower. Not even Esme's books that she had to read for her classes, could distract her.

And when the train finally stopped at the station, Esme was the first one to jump out of her seat and to get her luggage. She could barely wait to exit the train and to see Cyd!

As he had promised, he was waiting for her. When he spotted her, he couldn't help but greet her with a big kiss.

Some of Esme's colleagues, who had come out of the same train as her, were looking at the couple with jealousy.

Everything nice had to come to an end, however. From the train station, Esme and Cyd had to immediately head over to the Goths, where she would introduce him as her boyfriend. She couldn't help but bite her lip the entire journey. That was it - the moment that would define their future together.
