- A Few Days Later -
"Well, Carol you know I love you and your daughter like my own family so y'all can stay here with us until your back on your feet." Mama Claire told her as she helped Mama Carol bring in some newly bought clothes.
"Thank you for this, it means a lot." Mama Carol said, putting the shopping bags down on the couch.
"No problem. In this world, where the men act the way they do, us sisters have to stick together."
"I know that's right, every man ain't good."
"Preach it." Mama Claire began, "Well I guess I can show you, you and Onika's room."
Mama Claire walked up the stairs, followed by Mama Carol. Mama Claire had 3 rooms.
"This one in the center is my room. This one on the right is Derek's. And this one on the left, is you and Onika's." Mama Claire walked into the room. There was a big queen sized bed with stylish vintage covers and a dresser with nothing on it.
"Who's room was this?" Mama Carol asked. "The covers are great."
"Nessa's."
"Derek's older sister?"
"Yep, she don't come around much but whenever she does, she sleeps in here. This her old room anyway." Mama Claire shook in the presence of the room.
"Why doesn't she?" Mama Carol asked.
"Vanessa... she was very ambitious and still is. She done went all over New York, now the girl is off in California with her late cousins and new boyfriend."
"Ambition and boyfriend don't go well."
"Her say, not mine." Mama Claire threw her hands up and walked away.
Mama Carol giggled. They walked back to the foyer only to be greeted by Derek and Onika going thru the shopping bags.
"Mom!" Derek and Onika said in unison.
"Hey!" The mamas said in unison.
"So what are y'all two doing?" Mama Claire asked.
"Looking at clothes! Ma, are these ours?" Onika asked.
"Yes, Onika. Its clothing, some shoes and undergarments in there. Thanks to Claire, we won't have any issues with dress wear."
"Cool, I was thinking since... Onika and her mom don't have anywhere to go. And shelters cost too much that they could live with us." Derek suggested. Mama Claire and Carol laughed.
"They are baby."
"Yes!" Derek cheered, "So we can have movie night, tonight Onika!"
"Says who?" Mama Carol and Claire swung their heads around.
"I already planned it, so you can't cancel mom!" Derek infamously stated.
"You are too much Derek." Mama Carol laughed.
"He is." His mom covered her face.
"Fine but bedtime is at 3 am."
"Yes ma'am." Derek and Onika said together.
"Onika grab your bags and let's go try them on." Mama Carol spoke. Onika obeyed.
"Derek, put it up. And fold your clothes, please. They're everywhere in your room." His mom begged.
"I got it..." He sighed.
- Later that Night -
"Come on Onika!" Derek rushed her as he put in Friday.
