"Where the hell are you then?" You questioned into your phone.
"I'm almost there y/n, you're so needy," your best friend Lily sighed in response.
Lily Akami was your best friend. You'd known each other since you were small kids, bonding over your love for volleyball. You had been trying to set to yourself after seeing Tooru do it a couple times, but your hand-eye coordination wasn't the best at five years old. Lily had walked up to you, fascinated that you played volleyball too.
"Well I don't really play, I kind of just like watching my friend play it so I wanted to try..." You mumbled to the wide-eyed girl in front of you.
"That's fine!! We can play together sometime!!! I don't have many friends who like the sport... well I don't have many friends period... but still!! Let's play together!" The girl rambled in front of you.
Surprised at the sudden kindness from the short blonde girl in front of you, you couldn't help but smile at the positive energy that seemed to be radiating from her.
"O-okay... but uh, what's your name?" You asked.
"Akami! Lily Akami." The girl responded. "But I think we are going to be good friends so you can just call me Lily!"
You giggled, not used to this kind of interaction with anyone besides Tooru or Tetsuro. "And your name is ...?" Lily questioned you.
"Oh! Sorry. l/n. y/n l/n. But I guess we are doing first names now so you can just call me y/n," you babbled to the girl.
"Wow!! y/n is such a pretty name. I'd love for my name to be as pretty as that..." Lily muttered in response.
"I like Lily..." You mumbled. "It reminds me of the flower..."
She smiled at you, clearly touched that someone thought her name was pretty as well.
"Thank you y/n! That's very nice!! Well I've got to get home now but my address is 412 Sato Dr! It's the little blue one. Come by sometime!! I'm sure my parents would love to meet you." The girl rambled. "Bye y/n!!"
You waved to her as she skipped off, still in shock that you had made a friend that wasn't just someone Tooru had introduced you to.
"Well get your ass here! I'm not walking in by myself Lily..." you grumbled.
"Okay okay!! My dad is dropping me off now. Turn around idiot." Lily teased as she ended the call.
You did what she asked, and saw your short, blonde-haired friend hop out of her Dad's white truck, waving to him. You waved to him as well, smiling at the man who was like another father to you.
"Hey Mr. Akami!" You exclaimed to the man.
"Hi l/n! Have a good day you two!" The man beamed before driving away.
Your friend walked over to where you were standing, a block from the school, with a puzzled look on her face.
"What's that mark on your forehead?" She asked.
"Long story... Tell you later." You said in response, rubbing your head while thinking of the boy who had hit you there with his volleyball earlier that morning. "Anyways," you continued. "I've got good news." You began, the corners of your mouth pulling into a smile. Lily raised her eyebrows at you, intrigued.
"I decided to check out Karasuno's volleyball cl-" You started, but you were interrupted by Lily grabbing your shoulders unexpectedly.
"YOU WHAT!???" She interrogated. "I though you said you didn't want to because we weren't going to Aoba Jousai???"
"Hey! I never said I was joining," you explained, shoving her off of you, but your annoyance turned to excitement. "But I guess I'll check it out with you before school..."
"YESSSSS Y/N I LOVE YOUUUU!!!" Your best friend shouted, happily tugging you in the direction of the school.
"Yes, yes, I know I'm just so amazing," you mocked, tossing your hair over your shoulder.
"Oh shut up," Lily retorted, "You've been acting a lot like Oikawa recently and I don't like it," she joked.
"Oooohh I'm gonna tell him you said that!" You said, beginning to pull your phone out of your pocket.
"I WAS KIDDING STOP," Lily screamed. She did like Tooru, but was a bit afraid of what would happen if he knew what she said.
You doubled over in laughter. "I'm kidding Lil'!" You snickered, using the nickname you gave her when you started going to Kitagawa First together.
She sighed in relief. "Don't scare me like that you asshole," Lily said, rolling her eyes.
You continued to banter back and forth like this all the way to Karasuno. It was nice being able to have this time with Lily, and you began to forget the interaction you had this morning with the rude boy.
The interaction that had made you decide to possibly join Karasuno's volleyball team.
