I blinked as lights flashed quickly past my head. I pushed myself up onto my hands and knees before attempting to stand up. Whatever I was standing on shook violently beneath me nearly throwing me of balance. I hooked my fingers through the metal grate that acted as a wall and steadied myself.
I tried to take a deep breath but found myself coughing vehemently. As I recovered I began to take in my surroundings. I seemed to be standing in cage that was racing upward at an alarming rate, making it hard to stay standing. There were a couple of crates in there with me,all containing various everyday supplies. I could just about make out the words 'property of wicked' engraved on the side.
I began to rummage through the boxes for something I could use to get out or to defend myself. Mostly there was just food until I found the cold blade of a penknife. I opened it and clutched it in my fist. My first thought was to attempt to saw my way out but I was still moving and didn't want to risk causing a fall back down.
After a minute of debating the best way to continue my thoughts turned to how I ended up here. I thought back to before I woke up but it was just a complete blank. I must have a concussion. That would explain the headache too.
As the box rushed upwards I realised that that it was getting progressively easier to see. I looked up and watched a block of light coming closer and closer towards me.
I only had a few moments before I reached the top. I considered hiding but the crates were to small to conceal my body. I decided that I would just have to run. I stepped to the corner and hoped the shadows would at least give me a head start over whatever waited at the top.
There was a creak as someone lifted the roof of the box up.
As My eyes adjusted to the light I could make out about 20 guys staring down at me. I stared at them for a second and concluded that maybe four of them could actually do me any damage. They began to talk among them selves. I managed to pick out a couple of mutters that sounded like "where is he?" And "maybe we should go down there," when I heard that I stepped into the light; it would put me at a disadvantage if someone came down here.
The boys were silently for a moment before they began whispering again, "a girl? But we don't get girls" "oooh she's hot, I call dibs." I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes and walked towards the edge of the box where the containers were.
I had planed on simply using the boxes as steps but one of the boys reached a hand down to me. I smiled sweetly at him and grabbed his hand. As I began to pull myself up I reached my free hand behind his legs and hit them hard. He in fell towards me and I guided him over my head so he landed at the bottom of the cage.
As I swiftly stepped upon the crates and pulled myself over the edge I realised that I was wearing some kind of long dress. Guess this is going to be harder than I thought.
The boys were slightly stunned and none of them had made a move to stop me yet. From my crouching position I ran through a gap between two of the guys ducking as the tried to grab me. I turned so I was facing the group brandishing the knife I found earlier in front of me.
They all spun to face me still looking shocked. Before any of them could say anything I threw the knife at one of them hoping to cause a distraction as I made a run for it.
I sprinted about halfway across the field until I realised I had no idea where I was going. I stopped and looked around, a thick concrete wall surrounded the clearing I was in. There was a tree line about 20 meters ahead of me but I could see the wall behind it. I turned slightly and saw an opening in the wall to my left. As I tuned my body fully, about to start running again, I saw a figure out of the corner of my eye. I turned to run away but I tripped over the hem of my dress. When he reached me he tackled me to the ground. Note to self do not stop when someone is chasing you.
