New Old Town

   The drive was long and silent. As soon as the spell was lifted I dropped out of school. It had been payed for anyway. No big deal.  I skipped the funeral. No need to go to the funeral of your kidnapper and abuser...

   Did they still live in the same place? Did they even remember me? Did they want me? I rubbed the tears out of my eyes and kept going. The town looked... smaller than I remember. That's a new fast food place. Where did the old park go? Is this the right turn...?

   'Faris that's the wrong way you stupid boy!'  

   I shuddered at the thought and shook my head. This one? No the next one. That's it. That's a new car... Maybe they moved. Of course Error and Geno would be gone but did Ma move? Is Asy there? Is anyone I know still here?

   I parked outside and got out. The cold stung my face. What a time to have record freezing temperatures... I pulled my hood up. The sidewalk was slippery. The sleet had coated it over. 

   The door was right there... I was right there. I lifted my hand carefully and rasped against the door a few times. 

   "Coming." That was definitely a female voice. Is Ma really still here?

   The door swung open. "Hel... lo?" She blinked up at me. Her hair was styled up and saturated with color. Was she dying it? Trying to hide grays? She did look older. It had only been... Okay 13 years is a lot. 

   "I uhm... My name is..." What do I say here? "Fresh Queen and I-"

   "Oh my god." She dropped the notebook she was holding and clasped her hands over her mouth. "Fresh?"

   It is Ma. I knew it. She looks different... "Hello..."

   "Is that really you?" She whispered reaching her hand out. Tears had begun to flood her eyes. She brushed against my cheek.

   "Yup... Its me..." I whispered placed my hand over hers. 

   "What in the world happened to you." She ran her hand over the scars on my face. "Where have you been...? We thought you were-" She trailed off.

   "No. Though what I went through was almost worse." I murmured leaning into her hand. "I missed you so much..."

   "Come inside. Tell me everything Baby." She whispered stepping to the side. 

   "Yeah. Okay." Was the only thing I could manage...
