I woke up, yesterday was eventful. Although I didn't find an answer to my question. Maybe I was being paranoid? Hopefully that was it and Fiona wasn't planning anything bad.
I got dressed for the day, just in time for my mom to knock on my door.
I opened my door and was greeted with a smile. "Morning mom."
"Good morning, Circe. How was the trip with Fiona?"
"Fine, I guess she's here to stay?" I said in a slightly annoyed tone.
"Unfortunately."
"Do you really think she's here to help us?"
Mom sighed, "I don't know, sweetheart."
I gave her a small hug before releasing her to wake up the others. Anubis arrived at my feet and twisted between my legs. "Good morning, Anubis." I picked him up and carried him to the kitchen, beginning the hunt for breakfast. I settled on cereal today. When I was finished I put the bowl on the floor, next to Anubis who was waiting to lick up the remaining milk out of the bowl. I cleaned the dish after he was done and headed into the living room, it was time for morning gathering.
Today, Queenie told her story. A customer was being extremely rude to her at the place she worked at before she came here. The altercation ended with Queenie putting her arm in boiling grease and giving the man third degree burns. The police couldn't send Queenie to jail, no one actually saw her throw anything.
Queenie didn't want to join us at first, she didn't even know that there were black witches. Queenie found that she was a heir to Tituba. The first accused Salem witch.
Madison provoked Queenie, they never got along. Mom had to calm Queenie down. To men entered the room with Spalding, one of them showed his badge and said he was from NOPD Homicide. Great. They wanted to talk to Madison and Zoe. Mom dismissed us and took the two men, Madison, and Zoe, upstairs into her office.
I paced in my room. How are we going to get out of this? The cops didn't have anything, did they? My worrying got the better of me and I sat in the black and white striped chair in front of my vanity. I closed my eyes and concentrated on Zoe, I looked into her future. All I needed to see was a couple of minutes. The images shifted and blurred, but I could still make it out. The men would question them, Madison would have her best poker face on, but Zoe would panic. Thank goodness, Fiona would walk in and fix everything, even though she was pissed off about the whole situation. She made the men forget. I left the vision, and rose to my feet. Everything would be ok, good. But, Fiona was pissed. She wouldn't take it out on the girls. Although, she threw Madison into a wall before, she would do it again; And this time, Zoe was involved.
I hastily exited my room and headed for Zoe and Madison. By the time I got there Madison was already on the floor and Zoe was face down on the bed.
Fiona was yelling at them "- brains to know that when strangers come asking questions, we close ranks, then I fear our line is truly at an end."
"They knew so much already." Zoe cried
"I couldn't toast a piece of bread with the heat they were putting on you." Fiona retaliated. She moved in closer to Zoe, pointing an accusing finger at her.
"You are soft. You're emotional. You care what people think." Fiona backed off of Zoe, her anger subsiding a little.
"Now, if there's one thing you learn before leaving this place, it's that we, even the weakest-" Fiona thrust her finger Zoe's way, "- among us, are better than the rest of them."
"Are we gonna get arrested?" Zoe asked
"No, you're both going to be fine." I said, trying to calm her.
"Circe, that's not important. They're missing the point."
"The point?" Madison probably just wanted this to be over.
"The point is: In this whole wide wicked world, the only thing you have to be afraid of... is me." And with that, Fiona made her exit.
"Hey, you alright?" I put my hand on Zoe's shoulder, she looked like she was on the verge of a breakdown. Dealing with Fiona tends to be intense.
She took a deep breath "Yeah, that was just a lot"
Madison's annoyed voice sprung up behind me "I'm fine too, thanks for asking."
I let out a sign before Madison started talking again, "I've got plans with Zoe, so shoo, mouse."
My worried eyes found Zoe's, "I'll be fine." She reassured me before she left with Madison.
I managed to catch Fiona before she disappeared into her room. "Don't you think that was kinda harsh?"
She turned around sharply "You think that was harsh? Can you honestly tell me that any of them are actually ready for even the smallest bit of danger?"
I paused, and tried to come up with a response, but couldn't.
"You mother's teaching has failed, now it's my turn. They will learn, whether they want to or not." She shut the door and left me in the hallway.
I needed to clear my mind. I took out my phone and my red bluetooth headphones, I put my Lana Del Rey playlist on shuffle. I grabbed my black bat-winged backpack, stuffed my wallet and phone inside, and headed out the door of the academy. I had no destination in mind, and wandered the streets.
I visited the shops though nothing caught my eye. I played with my amulet as I walked, it reached just above my chest. I have never took it off since my mom first clasped it around my neck. There was condition that went with the enchanted necklace, only my mom was able to take it off. This was to ensure that the 'wrong' people could never get a hold on my power. I eventually settled inside a little cafe, giving my feet rest after all the walking, I scrolled aimlessly through my phone until I got a text from my mom.
'It didn't work out'
I knew what she was referring to, I quickly texted back
'I'm so sorry, is there anything I can do?'
'No, but I'm going to try an alternative way.'
Alternative way? She meant magic.
'If you really want to do that, just please be careful.'
'I will, I love you'
'I love you too mom'
It was getting late. I headed back to the academy, hoping that my mom's plans wouldn't go south.
