It hits my body with the force of a train. It strikes me quick, tossing me up into the air, giving me a bird's eye view of the world carrying on with their normal activities, unaware of the terrible incident unfolding behind them. It thrashes me onto the ground, leaving deep wounds on my upper thigh, an aching headache gradually making itself known with its drum like beat ringing across my skull, smashing into my brain in the process. I find that I am numb, frightened, alone, curled up into a loose ball, my chest filling up with electricity. And then comes the rain. It pours from above me, it sinks underneath me, it surrounds me, it swallows me, leaving no room for me to draw in more than a few sharp breaths. The thunderous noise that swells from the inside of my heart crawls up into the back of my throat where it is released once, twice, three times with earth rattling vibrancy. The lightning strikes, the brightness of which bores into my soul after searing my flesh, stripping my insides bare of any feelings related to that of exuberance and ecstasy. And there I lay, crumpled and beaten, indifferent and defeated. It has won. Again, it has won.
