The vikings of the village knew well that there chief was immortal. They knew that he was very close to the winter spirit that stayed year round. But what they didn't know is that their chief loved the one called Jack Frost with all of his heart. Only the chief's mother Valka knew of his true heart's desire, because unlike the vikings, she could see the love in both their eyes towards each other. Her son Hiccup was just like her beloved husband when he still alive, so protective and so in love. She watched from the center of the great hall as then the chief and winter spirit slunk in, making sure to avert themselves from the eyes of others. Valka smiled for the same reason they hid, Hiccup still held Jack in his arms as they walked.

Hiccup and Jack faced each other. The chief then leaned in and kissed the winter spirit, gently and tenderly to keep them both calm, then squeezed him one more time. Then letting go and making his way to the center of the hall, where the strong vikings stood waitng for his orders. He looked up at them, masking any fear he had and replacing it with determination and a fierceness his father once had. "The armada is approaching. They'll be at our shores any minute if we don't do something." An older viking with one hand and one leg looked at him with wisdom and stepped up next to him. "We follow you chief. Tell us what we must do." Hiccup looked up at his old friend and father-figure Gobber. The one person who could change even if he aged. "Gather your dragons and swords. Apparently our invaders didn't care to see that we're an island filled with dragons." The vikings around him laughed and agreed. The chief then turned to another viking in the crowd. An adult woman with blonde hair held back in a tight braid held an axe in her right hand at the ready. "Astrid, gather the men." She nodded. "COME ON!!" Most of the vikings followed her out of the hall chanting war cries, except for three people. Hiccup then turned to one of the other people still in the hall. His mother next to her dragon Cloudjumper, and next to him, Hiccup's dragon. The nightfury of Berk, the alpha of all dragons, Toothless himself. "We'll gather the wild dragons. Toothless, you know what to do." Both dragon and mother nodded. Valka and Cloudjumper flew out of the hall, and Toothless waited patiently as his rider mounted him. "Jack, can you whip up a storm in 3 minutes?" The said winter spirit flew beside him and nodded, but it was obvious of the fear that still lingered in his eyes. Hiccup held that same fear, but could hide it easily. Oh by Odin's name how Hiccup had wished this day would never come. To have fallen so hard for someone, then have to see them face war in front of your very eyes. Hiccup would do everything in his power to keep his precious Jack safe from harm, as Jack would do for him. As they left the great hall, both the chief and winter spirit preyed to Odin the same prayer: Odin, protect my love from death, don't let anything happen to him when I'm not looking. He means everything to me, and so help me gods if I lose him.

The chief and the alpha hovered over the sea. They had won, well almost. There was just one more ship to destroy. The blizzard had given the Berkians a head start and the help of fire breathing dragons secured their victory. So the alpha ordered the strongest dragons to lift it high in the air, and drop it back in the sand to destroy it. The ship was HUGE, and would have to be burned the next day, but the chief didn't care. As long as it was gone. But one thing he cared about was that he hadn't seen the winter spirit for a while. 'Oh no....' "Jack!" No answer. He scored the beach for any sign, the ocean for any white, the cliffs for any frost. Wait, the beach!! He was there on the sand. Ever so slowly getting up, the chief knew he was wounded. But here was the problem, he was right underneath where the ship was hovering... "NOOO!!!"... But it was too late. Toothless had already given the order, the dragons dropped the ship. And the last thing Hiccup saw of the winter spirit was a quick glimpse of fear and lost hope.

Toothless immediately realized his mistake by the way his rider screamed in horror and pain, and rocketed down to the beach. But Valka also had watched and quickly followed on Cloudjumper. The nightfury made it first, and the chief almost fell off trying to dismount. He quickly got up and started to run towards the demolished ship. But Valka had gotten there too, and she ran after him. Then catching him before he got there, and held him back as he started to thrash against her. "No son!! Don't!!!" Hiccup wouldn't stop thrashing though, he started to gasp for air and tears started to burn his eyes. "NO NO!!! JACK NO!!!" "Stop Hiccup!!! He's gone!!" His thrashes grew steadily weaker. "NO PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!" "He's gone Hiccup. There's nothing you can do." The chief had lost all the strength he had and fell to his knees, weeping into his hands hopelessly. "No...no..." The viking woman Astrid had made it to the beach and ran to the chief on the ground. As she knelt down, she got a look from Valka that told her that the chief has suffered a great loss, one too great to be healed. She couldn't do anything for the chief, even if she was still his best friend.
