The roar of my alarm clock rings in my ears as im pulled back into consciousness. I groan and slam my
fist on the radio, aiming for the snooze button. Instead, my fist hits the hard, cold, hardwood nightstand
with a pound. shit. a shooting, unrelenting pain shoots from my fingertips to my wrist, making me
scream into my pillow.
Fuck. this is a great start to my morning. Shit. I overslept. It's past seven and Brady has a test in trig first
period. I inwardly punch myself in the gut. I shouldn't of gone out late last night. my head is
pounding.
"Brady, i overslept. Get out of bed! Its past six! Brady!" I call as i force myself out of bed, switch my
alarm off finally and head for the bathroom. Damn. my hair is a mess. i swiftly pull it back into a
messy bun and smear some gloss on my lips along with a fresh coat of eyeliner, mascara, and light
eyeshadow. The hallway is still silent as i pop my toothbrush in my mouth and head towards Brady's
bedroom at the end of the hall.
"You better be up...."
i start to say as i peek into the room. Damn. Brady's up and on his laptop with a
bowl of oatmeal and a glass of orange juice. he grins to me and winks.
"wow. now, who are you and what have you done with my lazy baby brother?" i say, wrapping my
arms around his shoulders from behind him. Is he studying? somebody is surely sucking up for that
new years eve party saturday night.
"Hey, im not that lazy. and i have a test first period, its gona be half my grade so i had to be up to
study." he slaps my arm playfully and i release him.
I wink at him and grunt obviously, dragging him out of the door along with me.
"come on. i have a job interview so ill give u a ride in twenty. You want an egg sandwich to go?"
i say taking the toothbrush into my bathroom and tossing it in a cup of water before retrieving my
purse off the bedside table.
"sounds good, lemme just grab my stuff and ill see you downstairs." he hollers from the hall.
"okay..."
i say as i see a message from Elliot, my best friend since high school, on my voicemail. That's kind of
odd, he almost never leaves me a message not unless something major happens. oh, oh.
"hey, emms whats going on? so i heard from Gia today and she's pretty ticked that you ditched
last weekends banquet. you should call her. and missy, don't forget to remember the party
tonight for my studio opening? your coming right? ...... call me love, byes."
damn. i almost forgot about that. i glance at the time and realize im running late. shit. i can't be late
for this interview, the pay is three times any one of my part time jobs. I need this. especially since
Brady's sweet 16 is coming up in three weeks and im broke. He deserves a party if anyone does.
