The car was still frozen on the road outside. The Brother stared out at it, his face shining in the light. After a long moment, the siblings turned and left the apartment. The only clue they'd ever been there at all was the cigarette smoke trailing behind them.
A black screen prevented them from seeing the person at the wheel but it didn't much matter. "Drive on," the Sister said quietly, but the car was already moving. The tinted windows made the street lamps look like stars.
The Brother felt the Sister's fingers brush his for the first time since they had been children. He didn't pull away. The two figures sat intertwined for a moment in the back of that hearse-like vehicle, huddled together like kids again.
With a slight bump, the car stopped. the siblings took a breath and stepped onto the street.
