Chapter 10 - Up and Down

‘And have you seen the guy ?’

‘Yes, he’s a fucking god.’

Louis and Perrie were having lunch in the kitchen, discussing Louis’ jealousy towards Jesse after hearing a bit too much about him. The woman found Louis hilarious and cute even though Louis was fuming and barely able to touch his food.

‘But he likes you. Why would he leave the office so early anyway ? I saw him go in and he was out after minutes, what happened ?’ Perrie asked.

‘I may have told him to calm down on being this happy…’ Louis knew it wasn’t a smart move, but he’s just worried about how hyper Harry was that day. They haven’t talked since and Harry won’t respond to his messages as he used to. He would just send short answers, without anything else.

Perrie punched Louis’ shoulder and was about to scold him when Zayn entered to eat. Things were awkward between him and Louis since the birthday party. He couldn’t believe his friend would go past the crucial rules and risk his reputation in the job. If someone found out, he wouldn’t be seen as ethical and could be banned from the professional order. Zayn was just looking out for him, he knew how this could affect both Louis and Harry.

‘What’s up ?’ Zayn asked and his friends looked at each other in silence, not wanting to share too much with him.

‘Nothing, just the game tomorrow, can’t wait to beat those assholes !’ Louis said and Zayn pretended he didn’t know what they were talking about and went with it.

‘Yeah, me too, they will shut it forever after this game.’ Zayn was back to his normal self and Louis was glad. He was missing his friend and not being able to talk to him was pure torture. He really wanted to share more with him though, really wanted him to be happy for him to have found someone, but he knew Zayn didn’t approve, so he didn’t push.

Perrie decided to leave the room, unable to hold what she had to say without giving looks to both of them. When she left, Zayn waited for her to be far enough to talk.

‘Look Lou, I know you’ve been really happy and all but-‘

‘If you’re going to talk about Harry, don’t.’

‘He’s your fucking client. How do you think this is gonna end up ? He already has trust issues and blames himself for everything, what if it doesn’t work ? He’ll think you’ve lied to him the whole time and he’ll lose it bro. I’m not sure about this…’ Zayn looked genuinely upset and worried, but Louis didn’t see it that way.

‘I know I’m probably risking my job but-‘

‘You’re not just risking your job Lou, you’re risking his life.’

The comment made him think. Of course he had thought about it. Of course he had tried to be reasonable and stop thinking about Harry that way, especially seeing what happens when something goes wrong. Having Harry drive around and hurt himself if Louis broke his trust was unbearable for him, and Louis knew it. But he couldn’t help it. He had fallen for Harry. For his eyes and his heart. And he was too deep into this to let it go now.
