Chapter Two

For a split second Nancy froze in disbelief. This wasn't a real volcano. That wasn't real lava flowing under them, but the flames roiling over Frank's jacket were very real-and very hot.
"Drop and roll!" Joe ordered. Instinctively, he sprang ahead but was stopped by the flamed shooting of the wall. How was he going to help his brother when Frank was caught on the other side of the fire?
Jolted into action, Nancy turned toward the entrance. "I'll get the fire extinguisher!"
"I'll get help!" Bess shouted, running behind Nancy.
Joe noticed that the blast of fire was subsiding. Taking a chance, he darted across the hot platform to where his brother was rolling on the ground. Joe tore his own jacket and used it to snuff out the remaining hot spots.
"You can get up now," he told his brother. "Are you all right?"
"I think so." Frank sat up to peel off the charred jacket. "This thing took most of the heat, though my back feels hot
