Driving along the Highway, mom and I were both pretty worn out
It was 7:43
I was staring out my car window, looking at the scenery of Brooklyn flash by my face. I thought to myself wondering how I would expect camp to come out. I had an extremely uneasy feeling about it, even though I was the best at making new friends.
Afterwards, mom dropped me off in front of school. Just looking at it makes me feel sick. It was mid-August and school was just creeping around the corner. I scanned the block, and all I saw were clamps of people talking, and there I was, alone. I stood against the school fence, since this was the apparent place where we were supposed to be waiting for our bus. It so boring, and my hands itched for me to take out my phone. But my instincts told me otherwise
Make friends, Hazel
I looked at this girl next to me, she was a dark skinned, average height girl. She was staring at the road, and a lady next to her. I assumed that it was her mother. It took me 3 mimutes to stare at her and consider if I should talk to her. But in the end, I decided that I should talk to her
"Hey" I said
"Hi" She replied
"Whats your name?"
"I'm Akila. What's your name?"
"My name is Hazel"
We shared the silence for an awkward moment
"So, you excited for camp?" I asked
"Yeah" She replied
I glance at a guy in a swarm of girls. They were talking in a loud tone and then laughed.
"Do you anyone else here?" I sigh
"Haha, nope" Akila laughed it off
Sooner or later, we were ushered into one of the three yellow school buses
I started complaining to myself once I stepped into the bus.
Why the hell are we riding yellow school buses if we're driving from New York all the way to New Jersey?!
But then I realized that my high school was small and poor, like many of the high schools here in New York. We shared an entire school in Brooklyn with 2 other schools, and we only owned one floor.
When I sat down on one of those uncomfortably cushioned seat, I saw Akila sitting to the seats across from me. Soon enough, there were two other dark skinned girls sitting next to her. I really didn't mind them, and I thought that I should just keep my complaints to myself and make new friends.
"Hey Hazel!" Akila yelled over the chaos of kids talking over each other
"Yeah?" I yelled back
"This is Jennett" Akila said, pointing to the girl next to her
She wasn't as good looking as I may expect from a typical High School girl. She wore glasses, had a awkward smile and had braids on top of her head
"Hi!" I said to Jennett
She waved with a smile as a response
"This is Ashely" Akila said as she pointed to the girl on her left
She was a lot prettier, and she seemed more-energetic.
I smiled at her, and she smiled back
After chatting with Akila and the other two girls, I decided to acknowledge who was sitting next to me
I shifted my sitting position and turned my head towards the window
I gasp.
