After the strange introduction. The group excluding Natasha was left speechless as Tony stood proudly next to the girl he introduced as his daughter. Steve was the most dumbfounded as he looked between the two. They have subtle similarities but he was lost at the eyes, Alaina's eyes to be exact. Taking a step back he inhaled deeply before looking back at Tony."Can I have a word with you?" He asked not looked at the father daughter pair standing opposite of him.
"Yeah sure thing Rogers" Tony said as Steve started walking off "Romanoff hang with Laina will you"
Steve had turned around briefly catching one last curious glimpse of the girl with the golden eyes before hurrying up the stairs.
Tony followed Steve into a briefing room with Sam and Rhodey trailing between.
"You have a daughter?" Steve asked as soon as the door was closed catching Tony off guard by his tone.
"Yeah, I have a daughter. I'm sorry what are you trying to get at here Steve?" Tony spoke back on the defensive side
"Would have been a great idea to mention her years ago don't you think?" Sam said taking a seat in one of the chairs "I mean she's what 18 years old by the look of her?"
Tony rolled his eyes at the two man trying to piece together this new information "Technically yes and technically no, are you going to let me explain or are you just gonna keep interrogating me?"
Steve squinting his eyes at Tony before nodding his head for him to continue.
"Well, Rhodey case file" Tony said taking a seat as Rhodey placed a manila folder onto the table for Steve to see. Steve reluctantly took a seat taking the folder into his hands and opening it. Inside the folder was enlistment packets for the army, packets with different deployment dates and Alainas MOS. Alaina had in a short career, but an excessive amount of medical documentation after one particular deployment.
Steve scrunched his brow as he looked over the paperwork in the folder. The words on the documents making no lick of sense "I'm confused here what am I supposed to be looking at?"
"Alaina Elizabeth Stark, born February 25, 1992 to an Emily Corelli and Anthony Stark, yours truly. Kept secret as per mothers and step fathers wishes. Incredibly gifted with intelligence. From an early age Alaina's eyesight as been almost superhuman she can see things from afar much farther then a normal human can. We're not too sure where she gets that from" Tony explained almost chuckling at his own joke as the other three men in the room listened to him talk about his daughter "Her mother died of cancer when she was 10. She graduated school early like I did but instead of going to college and getting an excessive amount of doctorate degrees, she wanted to prove that she was more then just Tony Starks daughter, so with my help she join the army like her hero Captain America." Tony took a brief pause looking over at Steve before he picked up again "I must say I'm a little jealous of you Cap. Picking you as her favorite. Anyway She was a combat medic choosing to go after her stepfather's career path with medicine....."
Steve took notice of Tony trailing off as he started talking about Alaina's army career. In fact Tony's whole demeanor changed as he continued "Her first tour of duty went fine no hiccups no accidents, the second one... I could tell changed her some but the third one...The encampment she was stationed in overseas was attached and in the middle of battle a missile crash landed near where she was.. she had barely gotten up when it exploded, injuring her severely.." Tony had stopped talking at this point closing his eyes as he was almost reliving the phone call he had received about the accident.
Tony got up from a seat and turned his back of the men whom all looked at him with hints of sympathy.
"What happened? After the explosion?" Sam asked in a caring tone of voice looking over at Steve as Steve looked over her medical records.
"Severe lacerations to all limbs, severe internal bleeding, damage to eyes primarily left, damage to heart" Steve read out loud looking up at Tony who was looking at the table "Jesus Tony..." He said softly. After reading all that he thought back to the girl he who to him seemed unscathed by injuries that would've normally killed someone.
"I don't know how someone who was injured in combat that bad is still here today. It's as if it's a miracle" Sam said with a shocked expression.
"Less like a miracle more like a promise." Tony said looking up from the table "Her stepfather and I made her mother a promise that no matter what happens nothing bad whatever happened to Alena. And we keep that promise. Her stepfather was brought in to try and fix what he could and what he couldn't well that's where S.H.I.E.L.D comes in,before we knew it was hydra." Tony took a deep breath "They showed up and made us an offered. a way to keep her alive. Super Soldier serum."
Steve look up a Tony and disbelief "What do you mean by Super soldier serum?"
" The stuff that made you, you. They gave it to my daughter stepfather to keep her life but at a cost." Tony said retaking his seat "Technically speaking Alaina isn't truly alive but she's not dead either. Her heart barely beats Her body primarily relies on her brain which most normal peoples does as well, but hers works twice as hard to make up for her heart. She has technically stopped aging completely. As in she will look like that forever. Her eyes which I know you've all noticed because how can you not right, she was naturally born with Amber eyes but when she's hurt they turn white drained of all color. And to fix her she need blood or else her brain over thinks itself and she'll go into an epileptic episode that could kill her completely."
After Tony had finished talking the room fell silent. No one said a word. What could anyone of them say to what they heard. It almost seem to fictional to believe but they've all experienced the bazaar before so how can they say what Tony's been through is fake.
"Why did you bring her here?" Sam asked breaking the silence.
"She needs more in her life then just being stuck up in a tower out of the public eye. She was medically discharged from the army do to PTSD episodes and because she's technically considered a failed super soldier.... hydra didn't take her from us, thank god" Tony explained crossing his arms over his chest "If it's a big deal she can be an unofficial member but I got to hope that this will be good for her"
Steve sighed before looking around the room "Ok she's on the team then starting tomorrow. But Tony no more secrets"
"Deal" Tony said shaking Steve's hand in agreement.
The four men exited the briefing room and made the way back towards the training area where they had left the girls.
Natasha had brought Alaina into the training room and was showing her a few of her favorite fighting moves. Alaina watched her every movement analyzing the motions then Nat offered a test demonstration.
"Nat, are you sure about this" Alaina asked cautiously taking a stance in front of Nat
"Yeah, it'll be fine" Nat said with a smile noticing she had caught her off guard or so she thought and charged towards Alaina whom moved out of the way before grabbing Nats shoulder and effortlessly brought her to the ground.
Alaina took a few steps back "I'm sorry.." she repeated a few times as Nat slowly got up and looked over at Steve
"It's fine but I think you would be better off training with Steve them me" Nat said patting her shoulder and walking off.
Alaina took a shaky breath in before she looked over at her father and Steve.
"What can go wrong" Tony said smugly making his way over towards his daughter leaving Steve speechless
