She felt like the whole wedding ceremony just flew away in a second but it almost seemed to take centuries to finally say the vow and get a ring put on. Said engagement ring didn't even fit: it was too big for Y/n's finger and always kept slipping off...

- You are mine, Y/n Kiribana. - Kuroiha smirks and slips his hand under his wife's kimono, reaching to her chest and fondling it greedily. - Don't resist and it wouldn't hurt... Maybe. -.

- S-Stop! I'm not ready for this..! - she tried to break free but the kunai near her throat made the young woman stand still.

- I thought you were ready to help your little noble clan out. Be a grateful firstborn and try to make a bearable wife out of yourself, shitty woman! - he scratched her soft skin with his deadly blade. - Or I'll get the remnants of your family, dear Y/n. -.

- O-Okay..! - tears began streaming down her cheeks and Y/n surrendered to the worst impersonification of avarice she's ever encountered...

"Legends and Tales of Konohagakure"

- What a bookworm you are! - Kuroiha tore the book from his wife's hands and looked through the pages she stopped reading at. - The final battle between the First Hokage and Madara Uchiha... Ain't this too old'n'dusted for modern times? -.

- Historic figures are the best mentors. If you want to be weal-

slap

- These books spoil you, shitty woman. - Kiribana-senior hoarsely barked. - You should've known better than being this brainy. Try learning how to shut up and please me before I find a good substitute. -.

- A-As you w-wish... - hiding her face behind h/c hair, Y/n whimpered. She tucked herself into a little ball and, when Kuroiha left, the woman let herself cry. Her shoulders were shaking because of pure terror and muffled weeping of despair. Only the image in the book was her companion: handsome warrior with raven-black hair and ruby-red eyes with the depth of the skies...

- What if this is... until death do us part?

She heard the guests coming in and sitting down. Y/n was ordered to stay in her room and keep silence, until everyone leaves.

- She's ill. I've heard her parents've just gone missing...

She froze right behind the door, feeling her knees shaking. The woman just didn't know what to think. Maybe, Tensei and Yukine managed to escape from the loan sharks' grasp and they're on their way to freedom, but it could be just a cover for Kiribanas' another murder. Y/n used to be pretty smart but last three months got her mind exhausted and beaten out off the track.

- By the way, this fact makes her completely useless. They don't pay us, I don't keep her. Maybe, it's time to get rid of the problem.

- Isn't it too violent to her, brother? She's young and she can be usef-

- Shiroiha-kun, you're too soft for your age... You're her age, right?

- But-

- No "but"s, she's gonna disappear as if she has never been born. A tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye.

At this moment, Y/n felt something inside of her aching. She didn't want to be thrown out like some candy wrapper, like a used damaged watch that's still ticking. Her e/c eyes lit with pain and courage...

"An eye for an eye and the world will become blind"

She took a look at the window. There was nothing that held her in this room now: the window was open to the small garden with the forest nearby. The air was fresh, filled with twilight dew and young nightingales' songs. The tempting breath of heady June made Y/n feel butterflies fluttering in her stomach. She realized what she'd lost in this marriage...

Former Kiribana's wife almost flew out of the window, holding her bag on the back. One step, one more... Y/n couldn't believe she sneaked out as she used to in simpler times. Her lungs were filled with the intoxicating taste of freedom she hadn't given up on yet.

"Dad, mom... I hope you are alive and free... I'm sorry!" her eyesight became blurry with tears.

She fled away, pushing herself through narrow gaps in the bushes. Her hands were aching even more: bruises reminded of themselves. Y/n ran, not feeling the earth and the path, tearing through thickets and thistles, trying to escape her former life filled with imprisonment and hurt. There was only one chance and she just had to risk it all in order to use this chance and become free...

She tripped over a root and flew into the ravine full of plants of many sorts. The young woman had rolled head over heels several times before falling into the cloudberries and panting heavily... She exhaled and a weak, almost unhearable groan escaped her bloodless lips. Everything became foggy and blurry... She fainted.

He mistook the sound of snapping branches for a scared deer or a boar escaping, but some sense of undefined chakra made the sage turn alarmed and get out of his shelter to investigate the matter. A weak groan from the same direction only confirmed the outcast's suspicions. Due to the constant development of sensory skills, he felt it was a young woman, almost a teen, long before he made it to the exact ravine she fell into.

"They're not gonna help you, I suppose."

The examination revealed multiple bruises and several scars on the left hand. There were several objects in the bag as well, but the stranger just sighed and lifted up the body and the bag on his arms. Hearing some weird noises from behind, he got away from unwanted visitors.

"What an unlucky lady, you happen to be under my protection for some time"
