“Jung Natsu, get up here and go to bed.” Then I started to hear the little pitter-patter of my 3-year-old daughter’s feet coming up the stairs.
“Come on honey, let’s go to bed,” my wonderful husband told her.
“But, I don’t wanna go to bed,” she began pouting and giving me her best puppy eyes.
“Too bad, you have to, I’m not your papa,” I told her. Sungchan looked offended.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“All it means is that you give into everything she wants and I’m not going to do that because I know that she needs to go to bed, she’s three for crying out loud.” Then Sungchan started pouting at me as well. “Jung Sungchan you are not three, you’re thirty for gods’ sake”
“What am I supposed to do, my tiny husband has just insulted me and you expect me not to pout.” I rolled my eyes at him.
“Don’t call me short.”
“But, then I would be lying,” he smirked.
“We need to get Natsu to bed.” I looked around so that I could get her to bed. She wasn’t there so I walked into our room and low and behold there she was sitting under our covers waiting for her night time story. “You ready for bed sweetheart?”
“Yes dad.”
“What story do you wanna hear tonight?”
“Can you tell me how you and papa met?” she asked hopefully.
“Of course darling.” Then me and Sungchan curled up around our daughter and each other then Sungchan started to talk.
“Well, do you remember that cafe me and dad took you to when we were in Japan?”
“Yes.”
“Well, that honey is where me and your dad met, 10 years ago.”
“Really?”
“Yep, I even used to work there.”
“Really dad?”
“Yes honey, now back to the story.”
“Alright, so I was in Japan for a vacation and I decided to go to a cute little cafe that my friends from Japan recommended to me.”
“It just so happened that I was working that day and when I saw your papa walk in I thought he was the most beautiful person I had ever seen.”
“Had?”
“Have seen darling, you know what I mean.”
“Anyway, so I walked into the cafe and sat down to look at the menu and decide what I wanted to drink.”
“And, I thought it looked like he was having a hard time reading the menu and since I knew a bit of Korean I went over to help try to translate for him.”
“So, when he walked over I thought he was so cute and tiny.”
“That’s beside the point and I asked him if he could understand the menu well.”
“I told him no.”
“And, I told him that I could help him translate if he needed it.”
“I said that it would be a big help if he did.”
“Then I translated the menu for him and got him the drink he wanted.”
“After I was done, I asked him for his number because I would hate myself if I didn’t ask the tiny adorable boy that was such a big help to me.”
“I hesitated but eventually gave him my number.”
“Then later that day, I asked him out on a date.”
“One date led to many dates.”
“Many dates, led to us dating.”
“Us dating, led to us getting married.”
“And getting married, led to us adopting you.”
“Our little girl.”
“I love you Natsu.”
“I love you too papa.”
“Hey, what about me?” I tried to sound offended.”
“I love you to dad.”
“I love you both, so much,” Sungchan spoke with sincerity.
“And I love you both too,” I spoke my eyes watering. Sungchan noticed and came up with a way to make me happy again.
“Natsu, look dad’s crying, let’s tickle him until he stops.” Then they both attacked me, tickling me until I surrendered.
“Alright, I surrender, I’m done crying, now let me go.” I felt myself being released.
“Dad, Papa can I sleep here tonight.”
“Oh, how can I say no to that face?”
“And you tell me how I can’t resist our daughter.”
“Oh, shut it Sungchan.”
“Let’s just go to bed,” I changed the subject.
“Yay!!!” Then we curled up in our bed, under the covers, just me and my little family. I couldn’t ask for anything else.
“I love you darling,” I heard Sungchan whisper to me before we fell asleep.
