Before entering Diego's apartment, Paula circled the block three times with the car. She was trying to gather strength to face the reality that he considered unknown. Diego received her as always, and she tried not to let his mood be glimpsed. He was the first to ask what the day had been like, as he made a Bloody Mary.
- It was a challenging day, so complicated that it will surely be in the top three if one day, someone asked me to make a selection. - Paula said.
- I have to ask you what happened to you or are you going to tell me on your own. – Diego said curiously.
- I do not know where to start, but I think it is clear if I tell you that evidence emerged that changed the face of homicide that weighs on the policemen involved in child prostitution and that new suspects appeared in the death of Marcelo.
Paula never talked about Marcelo with him, and because of the tone of her voice, she felt worried, she wanted to know what he was referring to, but she couldn't show her anxiety. Paula continued explaining.
- The place where the car that hit him was scrapped was discovered, and there are suspicions about people belonging to a large group of companies.
Diego began to feel fear, a chill ran down his back, he wished Paula to speed up the story, but his face kept the same gesture of interest since the conversation began.
- The Judge started to act ex officio and has already issued arrest warrants, I imagine that there will be news soon.
Paula was silent, he intervened with extreme concern.
- I guess it should not be nice to go through that again, the wound was closing and now relive everything again ... I understand, my love - Diego said as he hugged her.
Seeing her reaction, Paula hesitated to ask him, but she needed to remove that doubt. After parting from the hug, she continued.
- It is not only; there is something else, and that is what really has me very bad. Diego, two of the companies involved are from your group, the Bank, and the Security company.
Diego turned pale; it was as if his blood had suddenly frozen; he did not know what to say, he expected her to continue speaking, but he did not.
- Are you sure? - He asked, almost without strength.
- Yes, there is evidence of money laundering operations, and the data on the scrapping shop came from there.
Diego could not speak; a thousand confused ideas were going through his head, he was silent, waiting for her to resume the talk. Paula, noticing his silence, continued.
- What is wrong with me is not knowing how much of all this you were aware of. I ask you to be honest with me, I know that you are a man who follows his business closely, I do not imagine that you could be totally on the sidelines of what happens in the Bank. I need to know the truth and that you tell it to me. You see that I am sincere, and after the complaint and the Judge, you are the first to know, I ask the same sincerity. - These last words were spoken in a broken voice.
Diego did not leave the astonishment that the news caused him. He believed he had in his possession all the existing papers about Almeida's death, he wondered what documents came into the hands of the Judge, who gave them to him, who broke the pact of silence with which not only the businesses but those involved were protected. He thought about what to say to that woman whom he loved beyond all and who begged the truth. He lied to her and added one more deception to those who were already part of his repertoire towards her or to be honest, at least partially, and to solidify the relationship that united them. Silence did not help, and he knew it by himself or why he should not speak at the time, and he did.
