sayaka
"i- i mean, sorry. if you don't want to, it's fine..." sayaka cast a hasty glance at the bed. what was she thinking? it was honestly just impulse. "someone you trust in believe in" - that's what mukuro said. and that's what mukuro was.though sayaka's idol group were wonderful friends, they could never have developed the close bond that sayaka had with mukuro. although sayaka had only known her best friend for roughly one and a half years, they'd spent countless hours together. no one else really saw their friendship as anything special; after all, sayaka seemed equally nice to everyone. the outgoing pop star and the introverted soldier with a sharp eye? no one would have ever thought to see them as the best of friends.
which also filtered into sayaka's thinking process when choosing her new "significant other" candidate. sayaka knew what attracted the crowds- being unique. an opposites attract type of couple- plus not even a straight one- would be sure to gain attention from media and fans. sure, some would shy away, but-
"hello- you've been staring at me for quite some time. are you alright?"
mukuro's soft voice broke through sayaka's complex thought process. sayaka's lashes fluttered up and down for a few seconds before registering that she indeed, was having a conversation.
"oh. okay. well, as i was saying... i don't have a problem with that. being your fake girlfriend," mukuro stated. i think i understand what you're thinking. opposites attract and a homosexual relationship would turn more eyes toward you, an i wrong?"
sometimes it was hard to believe that mukuro was the ultimate soldier and not the ultimate mind reader."really? you will?" sayaka squealed. without thinking, she flung her pajama-sleeved arms around her friend's slender frame, pulling her close and patting her softly on her back. it was only when mukuro started to squirm anxiously that sayaka remembered one thing about her friend- she didn't care much for physical contact. she let her hands drop and reached one to her head to comb her fingers through her hair in shame.
"sorry. i forgot," sayaka apologized. her cheeks burned with embarrassment and a sickly feeling of awkward self-consciousness blossomed throughout her body.
"i-it's okay. i'm going to have to have to get used to that. we're going to be dancing, right?" mukuro chewed on her lip nervously.
"so... you're serious? you will? don't feel obliged just because i asked," sayaka said. she reached her hands up and gripped mukuro's hands, running her thumb over her friend's soft palms.
"you know, this could be kinda serious after all. you can take some time to think if you want."mukuro nodded. "you're my first real friend. if you want me to do something important to you, i can. plus, i have good ideas," she assured.
sayaka cracked a smile at the last sentence. "you do have good ideas. okay then...""operation fake girlfriend: in action!"
mukuro hadn't let go of sayaka's hands.
-
a dark shadow loomed over sayaka. the blue haired girl glanced up, terrified."are you done yet?"
any fearful thoughts that had crossed sayaka's mind were gone. mukuro was peering down at her curiously.
"ah- you scared me!" she said.
"oh. very sorry," mukuro replied. "just wanted to know if you were ready yet."
sayaka thumbed through more neatly organized notebooks.
"it was a bad idea, packing all of my old diaries for school, geez. it'll just be a sec, hold on-"
she spotted a simple black notebook shoved in the very corner of her desk drawer and cried out triumphantly.
"great! found it." sayaka grinned widely. she stood up from her kneeling position, picking up a pencil as she shut the drawer with a light kick from her bare foot.mukuro raised her eyebrows.
"this is for what again?" she questioned.
"we're gonna take notes!" sayaka smiled. "you know we have to act like a couple. they're not going to believe it otherwise. so we can make a list of coupley things to do."
"like... holding hands and kisses?" a flicker of discomfort passed through mukuro's eyes as her ears burned red at the idea. sayaka spotted her subtle body language, saying,
"hey... it's really okay if you don't want to do it! you have your own free will. don't be afraid to make your own choices."
"it's really fine! i promise. this is my choice," mukuro reassured.
"okay! anyway, we don't have to do that stuff. i mean, maybe hold hands, but just a bit more affection is all."the two trotted back to sayaka's bed, slumping back down.
"holding hands is good..." sayaka started, scribbling it down on the first page. she gave a sudden giggle.
"what about love notes? i think that'd be fun no matter what." mukuro leaned in to peek at the writing, starting to get a bit invested in this crazy plan. she nodded.
"mhm, i think that would be good. sharing lunches? maybe. do couples do that?"
sayaka's eyes gleamed as she gave a vigorous nod and scratched down the idea.
"there we go! on a roll now! what are some other things? oh! oh! how did we become girlfriends?" she asked."i have a bit of an idea..." mukuro said.
...and then they basically made a complex backstory for their "relationship."
