sayaka
sayaka giggled at her phone, mukuro smiling gently next to her. they were both curled tightly together on one of the library's many large armchairs, even though they were only meant to seat one individual. but, as sayaka reasoned, sharing a chair was a couple-y thing to do. plus, those chairs were huge anyway.

it was one hour after mukuro's choking incident, and today their class had library period. the librarian was out on a short errand, so the only ones in the dusty room was sayaka's class. sayaka wasn't the hugest fan of the library's selection of novels, so instead her and mukuro were watching a comedy anime on her phone (hidden behind a book, of course).
"you boys are the homosexual supporting cast!" the blonde character on the screen said.

sayaka tapped mukuro's shoulder, leaning into the other's ear to whisper,
"that's us, the homosexual supporting cast!" jokingly. mukuro cast a warm look over to sayaka, her eyes glittering with an unfamiliar gleam.
"for the role i'm playing, sure. but i'd say you're more the main character," she responded, sounding factual but clearly joking around with her friend.
"aw, you're the main character too, if i am!" sayaka protested, jabbing her index finger at the on screen characters.
"so... we're the main characters, and the love interests, then," mukuro stated.
"yeah!" sayaka grinned, saying the word a bit too loud.

"for fuck's sake, would you shut the fuck up, maizono?!" mondo growled from a table across the library. kiyotaka next to him placed a firm hand on his shoulder.
"bro. we discussed this. try not to curse at your classmates next time, okay?" the black-haired one said, in the calm manner he mostly reserved for his "best bro."
"sorry, taka. she's just-" mondo glared at sayaka- "pissing me off. it's a library, be quiet. geez."
"he's yelling all the time. i don't believe he should have a say in this." mukuro almost whispered from beside sayaka.
"yeah, mondo, you hear that? you sh-" sayaka began-

"guys! let's not!" makoto raised his voice. "just.. be quiet, everyone! no arguing!"
"don't tell me what to do, punk," mondo stood, facing makoto. "i have a right to be mad if these stupid girls are suddenly being all buddy-buddy and acting like they're dating and interrupting my study time!"
"well, joke's on you, mondo, we are dating! ha!" sayaka blurted, jumping up from the chair and leaving mukuro without her warmth.

all heads in the room snapped towards them.
"w-what? g-g-gay? gross..." toko was the first to speak, immediately turning away towards her corner again.
"excuse you, toko- it's not- it's not gross," spluttered taka.
"yeah! not gross," agreed mondo, backing his friend up. "wanna fight me, book nerd?"

"no fighting!" makoto repeated at the same time taka said.
"fighting is not welcome in a school environment!"
at the same time as leon and hagakure simultaneously shouted,
"hell yeah!"
the room erupted into chaos and sayaka turned back to her "girlfriend," who was sitting rigidly in the armchair, face void of expression. she sat back down leaning slightly into the black-haired one.

"hey, uh- i'm really sorry, muku... it just slipped out. i didn't-" sayaka began, but was cut off by a sudden grasp of mukuro's hand on hers.
"it's okay, at least junko's not here..." mukuro said, all worry disappearing from her eyes.
sayaka was still trying to process that mukuro had willingly held her hand, replying with a simple "yeah."
junko, after somehow having gained even more popularity, was skipping school again for another magazine shoot. if you didn't know who the fashionista was at this point, you must've literally been living under a rock. sayaka was also glad that junko wasn't there, as she liked to get into people's drama and nothing was keeping her from getting into her own sister's love life. though junko was generally an okay person, she could be very controlling of mukuro at times, which was something sayaka worried a lot about.

"let's run away. cmon," sayaka whispered urgently. she and mukuro were creeping out the side door, about to escape the chaos- 6 steps, 5 steps, 4, 3, 2-

"trying to leave now, are we?" celestia's accented voice rang out across the room just as sayaka sped down the hallway, dragging mukuro behind her. the soldier quickly adapted to sayaka's pace and jogged along side her. celestia's frustrated commands for hifumi to chase the pair echoed down the hall, but he  was no match for mukuro and sayaka's lengthy head start and bodies fit for running and jumping.

they burst out of the school, running to a side alley to catch their breath.
"fun, right?" sayaka grinned.
"fun... sure," mukuro replied, brushing off a droplet of sweat while sayaka panted. the idol had lots of conditioning needed for moving around on stage, but running long distances was not her thing.

sayaka straightened up.
"wanna head to the dorms for a little? i'm sure no one would mind if we skipped library for another hour," she suggested. mukuro gave a nod in response, and they took each other's hands once more. mukuro didn't seem to notice the hand in hers much, but sayaka enjoyed the feeling.
i could get used to this, she thought.
