When I wake up the next morning, Ben is gone. He always starts his day with coffee, so I know I'll find him in the kitchen. If I can FIND the kitchen. I dart past the statues and find the stairs. After that, though, I'm lost. I can call or text Ben but he can be so patronizing sometimes. He'll laugh if I ask for directions.
Callie: If I were designing a ridiculously enormous mansion, where would I put the kitchen?
I shrug and turn left. I end up in a dark hall with a door at the end. Just when I start to pull it open, a hand smacks against it, slamming it shut.I yelp and spin around.Ben: What are you doing??
Callie: I thought this might be the kitchen.
Ben: It's NOT! It's my home studio. Understand?
I frown.
Callie: We literally MET in one of your studios!
Ben: Not this one. This one is private!
He locks the studio door and scowls at me. The shadow of his brows turns his eyes to dark sockets. The sight makes me cringe and step back. But then, he smiles.
Ben: Come on, baby. Let's get you some coffee.
His mood shift almost give me a whiplash. Heart hammering, I follow him to the kitchen.I can't stop thinking about Ben's studio. What's he hiding? I've never seen him so angry before. Maybe I should call an Uber and get out of here. But... I love Ben. If I leave, that'll be the end of our relationship. I just need to reassure myself that nothing's wrong. He'll never even know.
