Chapter 10, masquerade party

Reese Left as quickly as he came Noah dragged him out. The apartment door closed shut as both Noah and Reese left. The apartment was silent again. I looked back at the coach where Noah was a minute ago, I could feel my face heat up.

I walked back to my room as I flopped down on the bed, looked up at the ceiling. My mind replied the whole scene, it was playing on loop. I groaned as I shook my head. We didn't kiss or anything. We were simply running after each other like kids and ended up on the couch because we were tired, right? It was just a friendly gesture. Just a friendly gesture... hold on for when is he, my friend?!

I sighed as I closed my eyes and stayed like that for a minute.

A friendly gesture? Are you sure you want it that way?

I dismissed that thought away as I tried my best to think of something else. My phone which was still in my pocket started ringing. I opened my eyes and looked around.

"Why is my phone ringing?" I muttered. "Hold on someone is calling me." I saw a familiar name on the called ID as I answered the call laying down on the bed again.

"Hello," Mel said as I hummed along with her.

"What are you doing?" she asked as I just mumbled 'nothing'.

"Don't seem like nothing to me," Mel said.

"Mel, it's nothing. How are you doing?" I asked as I sat up straight.

"I have news!" she said.

"News or latest gossip?" I asked, smiling at myself.

"Just news this time," she said, probably smiling herself.

"Spill," I said as Mel started talking again.

"So, a few of the seniors were talking a few days back about a neighborhood party. Few people are throwing a masquerade party," she said.

"What's the catch?" I asked.

"Well, you need a date as you will have to dance," she said.

"Uh-huh, I believe you already made your mind that you are going and you will drag me with you and for that, I need to find a date. Also, we need to buy something nice for the party," I said as Mel started laughing.

"You know me too well," she laughed as I just shook my head.

"I have nothing better to do, so wanna head out now?" I asked.

"Sure," Mel answered. We both said our goodbyes as I picked out something comfortable to wear.

I arrived earlier than Mel, so I was waiting. And waiting felt horrible. Imagine standing in the middle of the mall alone with different crowds walking here and there and occasionally looking in your direction silently questioning your existence.

After 5 minutes, which felt like hours Mel came running with a big smile on her face as he waved her hand to catch my attention.

"You arrived!" Mel said. "I thought you would ditch me!"

"I never do that!" I whispered-yelled as I followed her inside a shop.

"Haha, I know you won't" Mel laughed as I muttered nonsense under my breath.

"You are buying me ice cream before I go home," I said.

"I am not, you always get a cold," Mel said calmly.

"But I am not even worried about me now!" I said.

"Well, I am. If you get sick before the masquerade party, I am punching that pretty face of yours" Mel chuckled dryly.

"Ouch, at least you admit that I am pretty," I smirked.

"Why can't you shut up?" Mel said looking back at me.

"I won't shut up and I never will!" I laughed.

"Sure, I have to live all my life dealing with your annoyance," Mel said as she sighed.

"Shut up, I know you love it" I chuckled.

Mel and I looked around the mall, walking in and walking out of different shops.

"Hey Mel, try that red one over there!" I told her as I looked around. The shop had various styles and collections. The place was filled with dresses of different lengths, colors, and styles of different fabrics. A looked around until a midnight blue mermaid tail gown caught my eye. It had a sweetheart neckline.

"Hey Christina, the red one didn't look that nice" Mel walked out of the changing room and called out for me. "Oi, Christina!"

"Huh?" I snapped out of my train of thoughts as I looked at Mel.

"I think I found something for you," I said as I handed her the blue dress.

"Hm, it's pretty. I will try it on" Mel smiled as she went to change again. After a few minutes, Mel walked out.

"I think the blue one won," Mel said as we started laughing. Mel insisted that we look around the shop for a little while longer as we still needed to find a dress for me.

I looked around until Mel called me to turn around.

Mel was holding a black off-shoulder, mermaid tail gown with a side slit. It was simple but beautiful at the same time.

"This has to be the one," Mel said, jumping up and down like a kid as I smiled at her.

Finally, after both me and Mel decided to exit the mall, it was already nightfall. We both said goodbyes to each other as we parted ways and headed home. After climbing the stairs with shopping bags in my hand, all I wanted and needed was a good night's sleep and maybe some cup noodles. (I am tired and lazy! Also, cup noodles are yummy!)

I opened my apartment door and walked in with the bags.

"Look who finally managed to show up," Noah who was on the couch said in a deadpan voice.

"I almost thought you got lost at the mall," he said as he held up the small yellow sticky note where I left the message that I was going to the mall.

"Just shut up, it takes time to do shopping," I said as I looked in the other direction trying to avoid his instance glare.

"Sure," he said kept glaring at me.

"Sure," he said kept glaring at me
