The day had been long and tiring, especially with Taiyo wearing himself out on the dance machine, but there was something peaceful about the quiet now.
She glanced at her phone, noting that it was 8:35. It was time to go home. Taiyo was slumped against her, dozing off with his small arms loosely wrapped around her neck as she hoisted him up onto her hip. His soft breaths tickled her neck as she smiled, brushing a stray lock of his hair from his forehead.
"Looks like I'm carrying you home, buddy," she whispered, patting his back gently.
As she made her way toward the front, the sound of Mr. Reo's voice stopped her in her tracks. He had a habit of lingering in the office, making sure everything was squared away before closing up.
