Knock knock knock

That was odd. I could've sworn I'd just heard a knock on the door. Purah's last class still had another two hours left until it was supposed to end. Could it have been cancelled or something?

Knock knock knock

There it was again. Now I was sure my ears weren't deceiving me. Maybe she'd misplaced her key somehow. "It's open!" I shouted from my room.

The door to the flat creaked open, followed by hesitant footsteps. "Hello?"

That wasn't Purah.

"Link?" I peaked my head down the corridor and saw none other than the patisserie owner, still wearing the white, button-up shirt and brown slacks from his work outfit.

When he saw me, he started walking toward me, failing to notice the obstacle course set out on the floor for her and my Robotics project.

"Oh sh—" I got up to stop him. "Wait!"

Too late.

His foot rammed into it. He wobbled, flailed a little, then eventually careened forward, bringing me down with him.

I landed on my back. He was propped up on his hands and knees, legs splayed out on either side of me. Our noses were all but touching, and our hips pretty much were. He looked me up and down, wide-eyed, a stain of bright red quickly spreading across his face.

My mouth opened and closed a couple times. Then out came a clumsy, "Oh God, I-I'm so sorry." My hand came up to cover my face. "I can't believe I forgot to pack that away. Dammit, she said she would—"

"Zelda, it's fine," he interrupted. "I should've watched where I was going. Are you alright?"

"Yes..." I muttered. "You?"

"I think so." But as he tried to get up, his foot must have gotten caught in the contraption, causing him to lose his balance again. This time, he didn't quite manage to catch himself and landed flat on top of me.

"Oof!"

He raised his head, took one look at me, and busted out in full-chested laughter. I blushed and did the same.

"Oh...oh dear," I heaved, wiping a tear from my eye. "This is quite the predicament, isn't it?"

"Yeah, sorry," he said, still chuckling.

"No, no, you're fine."

Once he'd finally risen to his feet, he reached out a hand to me. I took it, unprepared for the amount of force he would use to pull me up. I threw my arms around his trunk, face-planting into his shoulder. He held me steady. His heart was racing tangibly through his chest. That, or it was just my own heartbeat that I was feeling.

The moment of stillness was brought to an end when he turned his head. "Oh..." He let go of me. "Your project." Following his eyes, I noticed the section of the track that had been trampled over, pieces scattered all across the wood floor. "I'm so sorry."

"Oh, that? It's fine! Look." Straightening my glasses, I crouched down, picked up one of the obstacles, and fitted its pegs back into the board. "See? This was made to be taken apart and put back together."

His shoulders relaxed, and he smiled. "Thank God..."

"If you'd tripped over the robot that all this was set up for, though, that...would be a different story," I tittered on my way to grab the bin that was meant to store all this junk.

"Do you need help?"

"I'm alright! Don't worry about it," I waved him off. "This is my assignment. I'll take care of it." But before I could thank him for offering, he was already on the floor beside me, picking up pieces and putting them in the box.

As he helped me put things back in order, he asked me what it was all for. Excited by his curiosity, I explained the assignment to him in detail. Our professor had asked us to create a remote-controlled device that had the intuitive ability to traverse across any and all terrain. As I talked about our progress with it so far, Link listened intently, giving me nothing less than his full attention. He would always do this whenever I'd go off on tangents like this, which was something that never failed to make my heart swell.

"Hey, what are you doing here, by the way?" I inquired, remembering my surprise as I'd heard him walk through the door earlier. "I don't remember us making plans to see each other today."

"Ah, right," he grinned sheepishly. "Um...honestly I just wanted to see what you were up to, so I closed up shop early."

"Really?" I gasped. He just shrugged and smiled at me. "Well, you're lucky Purah's in class right now. Otherwise, you'd have two mad scientists on your hands." This roused an adorably innocent little giggle out of him, which I reciprocated. Once everything was out of the way, I stood up. "Can I get you anything? Some tea?"

"I'd love some," he beamed sweetly. "Thanks."
