CHAPTER 0

                       EYE-OPENER

The bonfire in front of me kept me warm but when he placed a huge cosy blanket around me and hugged me close, I felt like I was floating towards the sun. That sensation that came with the warmth as well as the fear that you'll get burnt overwhelmed me.

I couldn't help but blush, the furious red hot heat reaching my very toes. His warm honey sweet chuckle only made me blush even more.

Ugh...what was wrong with me? Control yourself Adri.

"Oh baby, have I told you how beautiful you look when you blush?"
His hazel eyes seemed to sparkle in the amber light of the bonfire and I couldn't help but compare them with the stars overhead.

My breath got stuck in my throat. What on earth had I done in my past lives to deserve such an angel?

           God, he's so beautiful.

"Anyone order a burger with extra cheese?" Elizabeth, my roommate and only female friend scoffed along with Boris, her on/off boyfriend who also happened to be my only other friend.

Liam, my boyfriend, the angel I was holding onto only hugged me tighter as he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah. Real original."

I managed to hold back my laughter and grace everyone with a small shy smile.

I've had a crush on Liam since middle school and like all high school introvert meets smoking hot boy nextdoor/soulmate cliches, he noticed me and asked me out on Valentine's day in front of the entire school during our senior year in high school.

Apparently, he had a crush on me too.

It seemed far fetched at first but over time Liam and I fell head over heels for each other. Fast forward to three years and we are both in our sophomore year in the same college, a day before Valentine's day, make that hours before Valentine's day which also happens to be our third anniversary.

It was Liam's idea for us to celebrate our anniversary with nature and of course I agreed.
I'd never gone camping before but Liam said that it would be fun and I trust him completely.

We've been here two days already and after the sun comes up, we'll be going back to college.

"Give them a break you guys. You're only jealous because you're not even a real couple."
The tall platinum blonde jabbed and I went stiff once I heard her voice. I watched as she walked from the trailer we rented to the log of wood Liam and I were currently sharing.

She looked gorgeous, nothing new there. And deep down I knew that I would still feel intimidated by her even if she weren't Liam's ex.

I really really wish she didn't come with us, but she follows Liam everywhere and since he's okay with it and says they're just friends, I really have no reason to worry because I trust him.

Cecilia sits right next to Liam on the free space left on the log and I'm pretty sure she made her thigh touch his on purpose.

DO NOT COMMIT MURDER ADRI.

"I mean I don't know about Adrianna, but Liam knows how to be sweet and affectionate."

My left eye was twitching so much I'm worried it might explode.

"Can you not be a bitch Cecilia? I mean Adri is right there." Elizabeth practically growls.
"What? I'm just saying that when Liam and I were together he made me feel like a queen."

I immediately get free from Liam's grip and stand up, the blanket comes off my shoulders and drops to the floor.
"Adri." Liam calls to me.
"I just need to get a drink." I mutter and start walking to the trailer.
"I'll come with." Elizabeth yells from behind me.

I say nothing because I don't trust myself to utter a single word. Why isn't Liam following me? Why didn't he say anything? Why didn't he stand up for me?

And what the hell is wrong with Cecelia?

"Hey." Elizabeth grabs me by my arm and begins to study my face.
"You really shouldn't let what that excuse for a human says get to you."

"She's just pissed that Liam left her for you you know."
"I know, and honestly I really wanted something to drink." I roll my eyes and Elizabeth laughs. She reaches into an open cooler beside the trailer and hands me a chilled can of Sprite.

I take the can from her before she gasps and nudges me gently in the stomach.
"Are those hickeys I see?"
"What? They're obvious?" I whisper/yell and quickly place my hand on my shoulder.

"Uh huh. You're choice of clothing really hides nothing." She winks.
Yeah she was right the loose tank top I had on wasn't covering much.
"Sooooo. You guys did the deed huh?"

"Did the deed?" I scoff with a raised brow.
"You know what I mean. Besides I thought you were waiting till..." She raises her left hand and wiggles her fingers.

I pop open the tab of my soda, take a sip and sigh.
"I think he's the one Elizabeth. What's the point of waiting if we're going to get there anywhere?"
"Are you sure this is what you want Adrianna. You said you were waiting for a sign or something special."

"Oh please. Stop acting all righteous."
Cecilia appears out of nowhere laughing.
"You know what the problem of the world is? People like you. Waiting for something special? Gimme a fucking break. Piece of advice sweetheart, nobody is who they say they are, love is a lie and the people who you think love you are playing you like a stringed instrument. And I'm saying this to you because I genuinely feel really sorry for you. I'm outta here. See you all at college."

Cecilia's words were an eye opener, although I didn't understand what she was saying at first, but now I do. Love was so overrated and I wasn't going to fall victim to the nonsense of love ever again.
