Brand new story, guys! Just the beginning of an idea someone suggested but I'm very excited to see where it goes. Let me know what you think!
*Emma's POV*
I'd gotten so use to airport lines, I seemed to be in another one every other day lately. They were better than being at home, but still dead boring. This line to my flight was no different- until someone ran smack into me, soaking the entire front of my shirt and jeans with near scalding coffee.
"You have got to be kidding me," I groaned, holding my shirt away from my skin to keep it from burning me as I looked up to the man who ran into me. "Are you blind? Or just stupid? There's an entire line here, how did you not see someone right in front of you?"
"I'm so sorry, love," he apologized frantically. "I guess I got distracted. Are you alright?"
"I'll live," I said with a roll of my eyes. I ignored him after that, which I found to be easier said than done, especially when I found my seat on the plane. "Oh, come on."
"Oh, hello," that same man said shyly, getting up to let me get to the window seat right next to him. "I really am sorry about before, love. I think I have a shirt in my carry-on you can wear if you'd like."
"Look," I started to snap at him but stopped myself, taking a breath and softening my voice. "You know what, that would actually be really nice. Thank you for offering."
"Of course," he said brightly, digging a black tshirt out of his bag. I went to the bathroom to change quickly before we took off, feeling much better in dry clothes. "I'm Killian, by the way. Killian Jones."
"Emma Swan," I replied with a breath of a laugh. "I'm sorry I was so rude before, just haven't been looking forward to this flight."
"Why's that?" Killian asked curiously. "First time flying?"
"Definitely not," I laughed again, wishing that was all this flight was. "I travel a lot for work lately. Let's just say my home life isn't the greatest."
"I can understand that," he sighed. "I'm starting fresh, myself, so maybe you can tell me a bit about the city."
"It's more of a place you have to see," I smiled to myself, thinking back to when I still thought of New York as home. "There's a lot of areas and they're all pretty different."
"Maybe you can show me around sometime then," he said with a smirk. The way he was looking at me made it hard to breathe.
We spent the entire flight talking and I could honestly say I hadn't smiled that much in a long time. I couldn't figure out why, he was just so damn easy to talk to. We walked to baggage claim together then to the curb where taxis picked up.
"Hey, um," I started awkwardly. "Do you know where you're going?"
"Can't say that I do," he chuckled. "I just figured I'd ask the driver for a recommendation for a hotel. I haven't found a place yet."
"There's one not far from my apartment if you want to share a cab," I offered, though I wasn't sure why. I barely knew him, and getting more familiar with a man I was so ridiculously attracted to was bound to end badly. "I've stayed there a few times, it's not too expensive."
"Out of curiosity," he said as we got in the backseat of the taxi and took off. "If it's close to your home, why have you stayed there before?"
"Sometimes I just can't stand to be in my apartment," I said quietly then sighed. "Saying my marriage isn't the greatest would be a huge understatement."
"I'm sorry to hear that," he said, making me look up when he put his hand on mine where it sat in my lap. "I know its none of my business, but... why do you stay if you're so unhappy?"
"I honestly don't know anymore," I answered with a shake of my head, looking at our hands for a moment and trying to figure out this strange feeling in my chest. "We loved each other once, I think we've both just been waiting for things to change but nothing ever does."
"Maybe it will," he said sympathetically as we pulled up to my apartment, surprising me when he got out before I could to get my luggage out of the trunk. "Well, it was very nice to meet you, Swan, hopefully I'll see you around sometime."
"I hope so, too," I smiled slightly, doing something crazy and writing down my cell number to give him. "Let me know if you decide you do want that tour of the city."
I turned around before he could respond, dragging my luggage into my building. My mood shifted the moment I got inside. I really didn't want to be here, and that complete stranger had made me smile more today than my husband had in years. I didn't know what I was thinking giving him my number, all I knew was that there was no way I wasn't going to see him again.
*Killian's POV*
Finding out that Emma was married had disappointed me more than I could comprehend. Sure she hadn't exactly been pleasant at first, but once her mood shifted she was nothing short of enchanting. Yes, she was married, but obviously extremely unhappy. Im sure every man who wants a married woman says that, but she had been pretty clear in her words as well as that look in her eyes when she spoke about it. I'd been in this city for less than a day, I didnt have a job or an apartment, only the few bags of possessions after my time in the Navy- and now, a phone number that may just change my life.
