The sound of the guitar chords flowed through my headphones as I let myself be lost in the music. Everything I have ever done in my life has revolved around music. It always will it seems. Basically, my whole life is centered around it. Almost everything I do is related to some sort of music.

I sigh as I feel the hum of the last chord vibrate through the wooden neck of my neon blue Fender Stratocaster. My face breaks out in a grin as I hear clapping come from the sound booth. My best friend and mother sit behind the glass with big smiles on their faces.

"You did an amazing job Sam!" My best friend Alex runs over to me and engulfs me in a hug after I've packed up my guitar in its case.

"Thanks, I've been working on the song for a while and I just finished it last week." I looked up into his bright blue eyes. He was extremely tall, if he keeps playing basketball I'm sure he will get a scholarship to a great college. Me on the other hand...I'm really short. Only 5'2" when others are at least 5'7". When I hug Alex it's like he only hugs the top half of my shoulders. On top of that I'm not really athletic. I mean I'm not one of those people that can't run without tripping, I just don't enjoy sports.

"Hey Sammie, are you busy later because my brother has a new friend that he wants you to meet. He's really excited about him." Alex chuckles and brushes his dark brown hair out of his eyes and straightens his glasses. He sometimes wears them when he doesn't want to wear his contacts.

If you look at us from afar you'd think we were siblings. We look quite similar except the for the fact that I'm really short and I have green eyes instead of blue.

"Sure, I'll stop over at four." I give him a smile and give him one last hug goodbye. "I'll see you soon, drive safe."

"I will Sammie, see you later." He gives me a half smile and walks out of the sound room.

As my mom and I head home with my equipment, I start to think. Usually when I think it isn't a good thing, but today I was just blank. I stared out the window until I began to see the familiar streets of home.

When we arrived, I unloaded the back of our minivan and dragged everything back down to the basement. Well, its not really a basement anymore. I kind of turned it into my music room. There are guitars hanging on their hooks on the walls, there are mic system cords connected to each outlet, vinyl records covering the rest of the walls, it is like my personal heaven. I carefully hang up my neon blue Fender in its rightful place on the wall and take a step back. I take second to just look at the music creators around me. I feel so much joy when it comes to music, nothing could make me as happy as it does. Well, nothing except for a boyfriend, but I won't get one for a while. I may be seventeen, but not many guys just throw themselves at me. In fact no guys do that to me. At all.

I sigh and pull the navy beanie down farther on my dip dyed hair. I'm going to change the color to purple next time I get it dyed and get a lip ring for my eighteenth birthday in December.

"Sammie! Its four o'clock you have to go over to Alex's!" I hear my mom at the top of the stairs.

"Ok mom I'll be up in a minute!" I yell my response up to her and grab my bag. I take the stairs two at a time, my black vans hitting the carpet in a fast rhythm.

"Bye mom be back soon!" I grab my keys and run out the door and across the street.to Alex's house. I just walk in because by now this place in my second home.

"Hey there Moore, how're you doing?" I smile as I see Alex's little brother Liam jog up to me with a smile on his face. His dimples make him look a lot younger than his sixteen years.

"Sup little brosoph!" I give him a fist bump. "How is a the little Liam Hunter doing?"

"Good, now come on Alex and my friend are waiting in the living room. They're playing video games." Liam drags me into the living room where there are two figures on the couch playing x-box.

"No! You cheated!" Alex jumps up in his seat with frustration. I stifle a laugh as he pouts at the screen.

"Sorry mate, you just seem to suck at this game." My ears perk up when I hear a British accent come from the other boy. From what I can see he has dirty blonde hair and a muscular structure. My eyes widen a bit when he turns around and smiles at me.

The boy turns around and crystal blue eyes stare at me. For a moment I just stand frozen staring into his icy eyes. They remind me of the Wisconsin winters here when the icicles hang from the rooftops.

"Hey Sammie!" I blink bringing my eyes away from the stranger to see Alex walking over and giving me a hug.

"Hey Alex what's up?" I ask with a smile. I fiddle with my bracelets as I feel the stranger's stare on my face. Unwillingly, I blush at the attention.

"Nothing, I just showed Adrian a new game." He said. He beckoned the stranger, Adrian, over. "Its not fair he's too good at it." I roll my eyes at him. He can be so childish sometimes.

"Well, anyway, Adrian this is Sammie Moore and Sammie this is Adrian Parker." Alex said.

"Hi, nice to meet you Sammie." Adrian holds out his hand. I nearly melt on the inside when I hear his voice up close.

"Y-you too." I cringe a bit when I stutter and I clear my throat. I shake his hand and give him an awkward smile. Alex gives us a thumbs up and walks off somewhere, but if I'm being honest I didn't really notice.

"Adrian? If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" I ask as I pull my beanie down farther on my head. It has become a nervous habit of mine.

"I don't mind at all," he gives me a warm smile. His eyes sparkle a bit. "I'm eighteen years old. My birthday was three months ago in June." He says. I smile wide at him.

"I'm seventeen. I'll be turning eighteen in December." I say. All of a sudden I hear a big crash.

"What was that?" Adrian and I walk toward the kitchen door and jump back when it opens.

Alex stands the doorway with flour all over his face. I can't help but burst out in laughter.

"Alex! What'd you do?" I giggle. He smiles sheepishly.

"I was looking for a glass of water and I pulled down the wrong thing." He blows air out of his nose causing flour to go everywhere.

"You're such a dork." I walk up to him and ruffle his hair causing even more flour to fall to the ground. I look up at the clock hanging on the wall. It reads 4:55 PM. I should probably go home and help my mom with dinner.

"Sorry guys, but I think I have to go. I need to help my mother with dinner. It was very nice meeting you Adrian!" I say. I pick up my keys from the table and give everyone a hug.

"Be good little brother Liam and help your Alex clean up, okay?" He nods and I give him a hug.

I wave to everyone and walk outside and across the street to my house. I open the door and find a note on the other side.

Dear Sam,

I went out to dinner with your dad because we haven't had a date night for a while. The house is all yours until eleven. Be good and I made soup for you. Its in the microwave.

Love,

Mom

I crumple up the paper and toss it in the recycle bin. I throw my keys onto the counter and take the soup from the microwave. As I eat an idea pops into my mind. I run down the stairs to the basement as fast as I can without tripping and open my notebook.

I start the first verse of a new song. Within the next hour I have a new song.

Sometimes a whole song could take minutes or it could take weeks. I write the title at the top and smile down at it. The guitars on the wall just hang there waiting for me to put the lyrics to music. I carefully take down my acoustic Asheville guitar and adjust the tuning tabs until it sounds just right.
