« Chapter Sixty One »
|Emmett's POV|
Frustrated that I'd repeatedly lost about seven times to some guy literally named 'Soul_Smuggler' who'd blasted my brains out effortlessly in one shot each time, I gave up on my hopeless sniping skills and groaned as I put my phone to sleep.
Scanning my surroundings, I found three morons passed out on the larger sofa along with the baby they were so excited to meet. Clarisse was engrossed in a book that was something baby themed whereas Aidan had left to get the door a few minutes ago and I hadn't heard her returning.
Forcing myself off the sofa, I made my way to the door calling her out as I turned into the passage, "Aids, who's there?"
I was only able to get a glimpse of how pale her face had become, her eyes wide enough to cover her entire face as she hurriedly grabbed Riona's car keys off the hook and sprinted out past a familiar big guy without a word.
"Wai-" I called out only for the door to be slammed shut in my face.
I yanked the door open without stopping for even a heartbeat and came face to face with the guy that she was visiting in another town for training in secret.
"Oh, I've seen you before." The guy who I vaguely remembered being named Dominic said, "Are you her boyfriend?"
I didn't spare a moment to grab the man's neck and push him against the wall, he was built like a goddamn mountain but still didn't retaliate with violence. Instead, he looked away, "You should probably go after her."
"Where is she going?" I seethed, trying not to ram his head inside the wall.
"To visit her mother..."
Shit.
"Where?"
"The address is on a post-it note on the dashboard of my car." He replied, holding out the keys, his face showing no resolve to fight back.
Shit.
Blood pounded in my ears as I let go of him and instinctively grabbed the keys from his hand. I ran down the stairs like I had a death wish and to the car that beeped when I pressed unlock on the remote.
Shit.
Quickly getting into the car, I slammed the door shut as I started the engine, the car coming to life. Shifting the gears into reverse, I accelerated without really looking, ramming the brakes as I heard the car hit something with a loud thud.
A silhouette of someone I'd hit stumbled back to their feet and past the back of the car to the passenger side, pulling the door open and getting in.
"What the hell?" I barked at Dominic, who rubbed the side of the thigh I'd supposedly hit with a grimace.
"I'm coming with you." He declared.
I pursed my lips, driving out of the parking spot deciding to make up my mind whether to hit him or listen to him on the way, though the former majorly occupied my mind.
Once we were on the road, resting one hand on the wheel I used the other to open Google maps on my phone, almost throwing it into Dominic's lap as I demanded him to put the address in it.
