Kyle Tandem packed his backpack with the clothes and items that Reaper had given him. Zipping it up, the brown haired boy threw it onto his back, walking out of the small room the orphanage had given him to sleep in. So far, all Reaper had told him was that he was going to meet someone that had agreed to look after him. Kyle didn't know who or why, but he wasn't going to complain. The orphanage wasn't the nicest place around and he was glad to get out of there. He approached Reaper, who stood by the aircraft that they would take to get to... wherever they were going. Kyle gave him a two fingered wave. Reaper nodded back. Kyle opened the hatch, entering and sliding into the seat that was next to the pilot's. Reaper got in and closed the ramp, then sat down and started up the hover-jet. After flying for ten minutes, Reaper set the craft down by a building that looked like a small office building. Once they touched the ground, Kyle quickly got out and headed for the door. Before he reached it, the sound of a gun hammer stopped him.
"Who the hell are you, punk?" a gruff voice asked.
"He's with me. Stand down," Reaper ordered the guard. He nodded stiffly, then resumed his post. Reaper led Kyle through the building, stopping when they had reached a common room. "Wait here. They'll be here shortly, okay? Make sure you listen to them and don't give 'em grief, understood?" Reaper reminded me. Kyle nodded. He put a hand on the boy's shoulder, then walked out. Kyle laid down on the couch, waiting like Reaper had asked him to. His holowatch glowed a comforting blue, the light illuminating his features. Reaper had been like a weird, surrogate father to him, helping him with bullies and whatnot. After a few minutes of waiting, Kyle took out the one item that he kept on him at all times: His shield chip. He slid it inside the holowatch, watching the screen light-up with a notification that a new chip had been installed. Kyle had to take it out whenever he wasn't either using it or looking at it, otherwise if he was robbed both the watch and the chip would be gone. The chip was almost irreplaceable, so he had to take a few extra precautions to ensure its security. Kyle tapped the watch twice on the face, and a energy shield formed. It was round, like a disc, made for defense and offense, as long as you could throw it the right way so it came back to you. That was something Kyle was working on. He would throw it and it wouldn't return to the watch. It just bounced and ricocheted until he either caught it or turned it off. Turning it off meant that he had to turn it back on, which took a few seconds. Too long. Time he didn't have. As he looked it over, Kyle heard footsteps approaching. Instantly, he quickly disabled the shield, taking the chip out and hiding it in his pocket. Just as his hand left his pocket, a woman wearing weird night vision goggles, a purple and violet suit, and had an assault rifle slung over her shoulder walked in. She stopped when she saw him. Her eyes narrowed slightly, which in turn made Kyle nervous. Finally, the woman spoke.
"Who are you?" she asked. Kyle found his voice to respond.
"Uh, Kyle. Kyle Tandem. I'm waiting for someone. Reaper brought me here, but I don't know who's coming to get me. Sorry if I bothered you, Ma'am," Kyle said nervously. The woman rolled her eyes.
"If Reaper was the one who brought you, I'm the one that's supposed to look after you. Let's go," she said. With that, she walked out. Kyle grabbed his pack and followed the purple skinned woman. Man, she must not like me or something. Maybe she doesn't like anybody? Who knows.
Kyle POV
We left the base, entering another jet, this one darker and sleeker than Reaper's. "It's a long flight. Read, take a nap, I don't care. Just don't ask if we're there yet."
"So you're saying we're already there, then?" I replied jokingly. The woman glared at me hard. I looked away, silently cursing myself for being an idiot.
