As I layed there and stared up at the ceiling of my 'hospital' room I couldn't help but smile. I had just done one of the things I never thought possible in life. I came out to my homophobic family. I would say that they took it quite well considering the fact that I am still alive.

Having my own mother sign me into Lucia State Hospital was possibly one of the best outcomes I could have wished for, because it was in this cruel place that I would meet her. Nurse Mildred Ratched. Everything about her was just so... perfect. Even her name. The way it rolls off the tip of your tongue. Ratched.

The name that would haunt me forever. For better or for worse.

But it seems I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's go back to the very beginning...
