A life changing problem. I got a text later that week’ we need 2 talk” .followed by a phone call with Maddie nearly cracking and losing it, she even threatened to hurt herself not because that she was scared but mostly her mother’s thoughts.

. Knowing her mother she would kick her out and throw her on the curb. I went to her house later to see her in a broken state. I later found her in her bedroom with her mascara running down her face, curtains down and numerous tubs of frozen yogurt scatted around her floor. I walked up to the bed and as soon as the bed dipped she turned to look at me. She mouthed the words “I’m not cut out for this, she deserves better”. “What? What’s going on? “I asked her, no response. She just gestured to inside her ensuite there were several pregnancy tests scattered in the bin. “She’s going to kill me by kicking me out, Luke! Then where will I go? If she finds out.” She started saying through sobs through her pillow. Who were kidding we weren’t cut out for this? We were only 16.But I will try and give her as much support as I can but how can you hide a baby in a growing body?.

I did something real thoughtless that day; I asked what she wanted to do about our situation. She said she wanted to keep the baby, as she doesn’t believe in abortion. The words just came out of my mouth like vomit. “Would you like to get an abortion, it’ll be better this way but either way if you want to keep it then fine?” I’m such an idiot. I was such a jerk to her that day but how would I know any better, when my older sister was 17 she had a baby but that baby was taken away from her by this nurse who told the doctors that she was “unfit” to be a mother. I could not let that happen to Maddie. So to protect her, I had to say something. She told me to “F off and that she never wants to see me again”. I tried to reason with her but she was already under enough stress. So I just turned my back and just walked away.
