"So your family is, like, rich?"Rachel asked, finally unpuzzling the mystery as to why Nick has been avoiding the subject of the matter.
"We're comfortable."Nick replied still avoiding eye contact with her, nervously flipping through the pages of the airplane menu. Rachel stared at him in disbelief.
"That is exactly what a super-rich person would say."Rachel said smiling as she got up from her beige-colored leather seat and sitting back down to adjust her position to looking at Nick better, looking around the plane where they were seated in first class.
"It's not a big deal, obviously. I just think it's kind of weird that I had no idea.
I mean you have a Jamba Juice card, you use my Netflix password, you play basketball at the Y that kind of smells--"
"I really like that place, thank you very much."Nick said trying to humor the situation, hoping to see his girlfriend's beautiful smile.
"And yes, my family has money, but I've always thought of it as theirs. Not mine."
"I get that but going all the way over there to meet them. Kind of just wanna know what I'm getting into, and you know, they're your family."Rachel said softly, as she stared into Nick's eyes with a pleading look.
"Well, my family's just like anybody else. There's half of them you love and respect, and then there's the other half."Nick said giving in to the puppy-eyed look he was receiving.
"Which half am I meeting?"Rachel questioned, sipping her champagne happily waiting for his reply. Though, a small part of her was worried that she would be meeting the half that worried Nick.
As Nick was explaining certain family members to Rachel, he finally reached the end with two of his favorite people aside from his girlfriend. Rachel's eyes widen in excitement when hearing the familiar name.
"Then there's Astrid and Evangeline."
"Ah. I remember Astrid, she's like who I wanna be when I grow up."Rachel replied, sighing dreamily. Nick shook his head at her, finding what she said funny.
"Astrid and Evangeline are awesome, she and my sister are the only two I'm actually close with. They're really grounded and down to earth, once you get to know them."
