Pat was driving home around 8 after delivering some late post.
"I can't wait to get home Jess, can you?"
"Meow" replies Jess
"Hehe, I thought you would say that." said Pat
Pat arrives at his house.
"Are you sure that you two will be all right when I visit my sister Pat?" asks Sara
"Oh sure we will. Us boys can take care of ourselves, can't we Julian?" asked Pat
"We sure can Mum! said Julian
"Oh well alright then. Trevor should be here soon with his bus." said Sara
Just then the familiar green, red, and white bus pulled up, with Trevor driving it.
"Hello everyone, late isn't it?" greets Trevor
"Yes it is." says Pat
Well hop in love, I'll take you to Pencaster now." said Trevor
"Goodbye" Pat and Julian say
"So how's about we order some pizza?"
"Oh yes please Dad!"
And so Pat Julian (and even Jess)😄 enjoyed some pizza while watching Song of the Sea on the telly. After the movie, the channel was interrupted by BBC News.
"Hello I'm John Calloway with BBC News. We are terribly sorry to interrupt your programme, however the reason for doing so is we have just received word that there are going to be thunderstorms in the mentioned areas: Greendale, Pencaster, Ingledale, McGillicuddy, and Kendal. If you live in these areas, it is advised that you stay in your homes. Do not go out and please keep in mind that the power may be shut off. And now we're going live to Tim Sutherland who is reporting in Pencaster right now. Tim?
"Thank you John. Yes I am here in Pencaster where it is in every sense of the word a downpour. There's barely anyone on the streets right now. As you can see, it's quite a lot of rain. Back to you John."
"Thank you Tim. Well that's all we know about the thunderstorms for now, but we will keep you updated if anything else happens."
The channel then went back to the normal programme. Pat knew that as soon as Julian heard that there was going to be thunderstorms, that he would start to worry. He didn't say anything, but he carefully looked over at his son who was sitting there motionless slightly shaking.
"Julian are you all right?"
"I'm scared dad."
Oh come now, there's nothing to be scared of. You know all Thunder is is Angels bowling."
"Really?"
"Oh yes, at least that's what the Reverend says. So you see there's nothing to worry about."
Jess then went under Pat's chair
"Look at that Julian. Jess already knows there's going to be a thunderstorm."
"Why is that?"
"Well because animals can sense things better than we can sometimes."
then a big boom of thunder was heard.
"daaaad!" Julian screamed running into his chest.
"There there Julian, it's okay." just then, at the worst possible time, the power cut.
"Bloomin heck! that just had to happen didn't it." Pat said under his breath.
Julian was now crying even harder.
"It's okay Julian, I'll protect you."
"But dad, Norman says that when there's a thunderstorm and the power goes out, someone comes to kill you."
"Oh that Norman Price! He's just a big ol liar. There's no such thing."
Then there was a knock at the door.
"I told you." said Julian
now even though Pat was highly doubtful of it being someone dangerous, still. he went into the kitchen to grab a knife just in case. He then looked through the peephole. Thankfully it was just Ted Glenn.
"Aye come on Pat, it's raining cats and dogs out here!"
"Oh very well, come on in Ted."
"Say, what's with young Julian cowering in that chair. "
You know he's afraid of the Thunder."
"Oh yes, don't worry Julian. That old Thunder can't harm you. If anyone tries to hurt you, I'll give them what for."
This made Julian feel a little better.
"Why don't I make you some chocolate milk and some cookies?" Pat said
"Would you like anything Ted?"
"Well a hot dog would be nice."
"Well it just so happens that I have a pack of hotdogs."
Pat got himself a cup of tea and some biscuits. Julian got some chocolate milk and some chocolate chip cookies, and Ted Glenn got a Coca-Cola and two hot dogs. Just then the power came back on.
"Thank goodness!" said Pat
"Dad, can we watch 64 Zoo Lane?"
And so they did, along with a VHS of Kipper the Dog that Pat had bought for Julian when he was only little. After watching the two shows, Julian was still awake.
"Dad, what did you watch when you were little?" asked Julian
Oh well I had tons of shows that I watched when I was your age. Bananaman, Danger Mouse, Trapdoor, Rainbow, The Wind in the Willows, and a lot more."
"Those were the good old days eh Pat?"
"Yes they certainly were."
Just then, a very unexpected, very loud thunder boomed so loud, that even Ted Glenn jumped. Julian began bawling his eyes out.
"shh shh, Julian I'm here. Pat then began to sing a song.
Hush little baby, don't say a word,
Daddy's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Daddy''s gonna buy you a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns to brass,
Daddy''s gonna buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke,
Daddy''s gonna buy you a billy goat.
And if that billy goat won't pull,
Papa's gonna buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull make a mess,
Papa's gonna buy you a cat named Jess.
And if that cat named Jess won't meow,
Papa's gonna buy you a little toy trowel.
And if that little toy trowel don't dig down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town!
After the song, Julian fell fast asleep but not before saying,
"I love you Dad"
"I love you too Julian"
"Well Pat, I think I'm going to get going now. I have to get back to my water mill.
"Okay. Goodbye Ted, see you later." Said Pat
"Well I suppose it's now time for bed Jess." said Pat
He carried Julian upstairs and put him in the bed with him, while Jess laid down at the foot of the bed.
Laying there, as he was going to sleep, Pat felt he was a really happy man.
