Brightflame scampered from under the brush, away from Windclan's borders, horrified of being caught by the guards. Her bright orange fur catching on brambles as she bounded towards her own clan's borders. As she came up on them, she met her best friend, Moonstorm, a slate grey tabby with emerald-green eyes, waiting for her by the twin trees marking the beginnings of Thunderclan's territory. Brightflame bounded inside the borders, only looking back once Moonstorm was beside her. The dark night swallowed the trees in the distance, and Brightflame couldn't hear or see any Windclan warriors following her. Moonstorm nodded at Brightflame and the two moved into the night back towards the village.
"Brightflame, what were you doing in Windclan this late? Hopefully not sneaking around the meeting cavern listening to battle strategies? You know Jaystar told you not to!"
Moonstorm questioned, already guessing what Brightflame was up to in Windclan at this hour. Brightflame sighed, not willing to argue with her best friend this late at night
"Yes, but I didn't hear anything new, Jaystar already guessed how they were going to attack three nights ago. And besides, what was I supposed to do tonight? Sit around watching the kits?"
Moonstorm's ears flicked back, obviously not happy with Brightflame's response.
"WELL DUH!!! Jaystar was furious when you weren't there to watch Ravenkit and Stormkit! She paced for ages, then finally sent me out to wait for you, I was waiting for 3 FLIPPING HOURS BRIGHTFLAME! THREE HOURS! You're glad that She didn't send Sleetpaw out to wait, that kittypet wouldn't have lasted half an hour."
Brightflame flicked her tail, not caring what Jaystar thought of her, the leader was too much of an empath to kick her out of the clan.
The pair stalked into the village, not even the high-energy kits were awake. Brightflame thought she heard a noise come from the med-den, so they snuck up on the entrance, only to be knocked backward by Lilypelt coming out.
"Uh, Brightflame! You're finally back! Jaystar was worried sick, anyway, I was just um, you know, um, rearranging the herbs! Yes, that's it! Rearranging the herbs! Anyway, have a great night!"
Lilypelt stuttered, nervously licking her whiskers and moving off to the tree stump where she and her apprentice, Brackenpaw, slept. Brightflame knew something was up but was too tired to investigate. She and Moonstorm walked back to the warrior's den for the night.
