Putting my head down into my hands, I wept uncontrollably. The little kitten pawed at my shirt in it's own attempt to console me, but despair had overtaken me completely.
Behind the despair though was shock. This wasn't real. Stuff like this happened in movies and books. This didn't happen to me, it shouldn't have happened to me. To anyone. He'd stolen me away from my life in the wee hours of morning.
I had to be dreaming. I WAS dreaming. That's all this was, a bad dream. Yep that's all this was, a VERY bad dream.
Putting the little kitten aside, I got up slowly and walked to the door.
If I was dreaming, then this was a nightmare. The circumstances under which nightmares took place.
Hesitantly, I reached out and grasped the knob. Twisting it lightly I saw that he had indeed locked it.
There are no windows. Nothing but the kitten, me, and my despair.
Reaching up to my face I wiped my eyes and turned to the bed. Climbing in, I pulled my knees up to my face and buried my head in my arms. I was just dreaming and when I woke up to my feeble shared apartment, I'd be staring at the cold tile floor.
The little kitten meowed softly and padded over to the edge of the bed. Glancing down, I lifted it up and cuddled it close to my body. I brought my hands across my eyelids to carry away some of the tears.
"You look like someone who I used to know."
The kitten said nothing, but it purred lightly.
"I think I'll call you Ace."

"Slow down Alice!"
I giggled as I ran faster, glancing over my shoulder at my pursuer.
It was late summer and there were only a couple of good days left before school began. I wanted to make the most of what play time we had before it would all be over and Alex would leave me.
I ran ahead with my black hair whipping in the wind behind me. Turning right, I quickly ducked around the corner and hid under a small pile of boxes, putting my hand over my mouth to stifle my giggling.
"Alice, this isn't fun anymore! Where are you hiding at?"
I crouched down lower, as I tried to make myself as small as possible, waiting for Alex to walk by. I watched as he looked from side to side, trying to see if I had hidden somewhere. I guess that he doesn't see me, because a moment later he runs off to continue searching.
Giggling, I stood up from my hiding place and brushed off my clothes. Alex is so dumb sometimes. It's not his fault though, cause I always win we play.
I felt my cheeks, they were hot from all of my running. My body was sweaty too. I think I'll just rest here while I wait for Alex to come back. Running sure is hard work.
*Tumble*
*Clink*
I jumped as a tin can tumbled and rolled down the alley. "Alli, are you there," I shouted.
Nobody answered me.
I wrapped my arms around myself as I slowly walked in the direction that the tin can came from.
"Alli I don't like it when you try and scare me, you know I don't like that game."
Still he didn't answer me.
*Meow*
"Alli?"
*Meow*
Crouching low, I peeked under a box to see a small kitten. My face instantly lit up. "Kitty!"
