(THIS IS A SLOW BURN)

((Danielle's PoV))

*Ringggggg*

The bell signaling the end of school rang. Summer. Finally summer! I walk out of history and to my locker.

Locker 102. I always laugh looking at where locker 103 should be because during the re-building of our school, Parkvally High in North Dakota, after a blazing fire from the seniors in the chem classroom, they had to rebuild the hallway. Three people injured one dead. I knew Ally personally for a few years but after she went to middle school while I was in fourth grade we fell apart.

I mean yeah we were in touch and her death hurt but it wasn't too bad. God, I feel like a bad person saying that.

I pulled my backpack that felt as though there were 10 bricks in it over my shoulder and closed my locker with a little bit of force. I locked it and walked down the front steps of the high school.

I started my five-block walk to Melburgs café where I am meeting Jenna, one of my best friends.

Jenna always had trouble with algebra meanwhile I am the best *que dramatic hair flip*

"Dani!" I hear a masculine voice yell

I turn my head to see my boyfriend, Carson.

"Hey, babe!" I say smiling and pulling him in for a hug, but he pushed me away like some kind of rag-doll.

I raise one eyebrow "What the hell?!"

"We're done."

"What?! Why? We have been perfectly fine for the past two years!"

He sighs, "I just don't feel the same spark as I did two years back. Anyways, I just don't love you anymore"

I scoff, "For your next luck girl, a tip of advice, pay attention to her favorite flowers. I loved water lily's but you would only get roses. I despised milk chocolate and loved white chocolate but you would get me dark chocolate. And most of all, give her love. I remember so many nights where I needed you but you weren't there but if you called me I would be at your house in five minutes tops. And with this, I wish you farewell."

I start to walk off but I turn around once again, "And one more thing, don't come running back to me because you 'miss me' we all know you're just going to hurt me again with one of your stupid mind games."

His mouth was left agape, "Close your mouth, your gonna get flys"

I wasn't sad or happy, I was a mix of both. I knew our relationship was toxic, I knew he used me for popularity and money. But I still loved him, him, and all his lame jokes.

I made it to the café and I opened the door, the wind blowing my hair as I walk to the counter with the stools.

A girl about a year younger walks up to me, she looks familiar but I can't put my name to it,

"Hi! I am Sindy, can I take your order?"

Ally's younger sister. I smile, "Can I have a medium iced Hope macchiato and one medium iced caramel latte with two extra pumps of caramel and only one shot of espresso?"

The Hope macchiato was for me, the iced caramel latte was for Jenna. If you can't tell she likes caramel and really sweet coffee.

Flashback, Hopes PoV

It was my 13th birthday and this was the peak of my coffee addiction. My favorite drink was a custom from our café. I would order a Medium iced caramel, white chocolate macchiato with a pump or two of peppermint syrup depending on the size and if you like peppermint. It always made me feel like a little kid, restoring my hope in the world.
