When he woke up this time, it was at the hospital.

Contrary to popular belief, re-living your life again and fixing the past towards a better future, is a noble and exciting experience, the first 10 times at least...
Now however he can only bemoan a lost opportunity-faking his death after his first fight with Sasuke-once he grasped his situation.

He was exhausted when he woke up in a hospital room with too many bandages and small hands, a quick look at the calendar gave him all the confirmation he needed.

This memory was quite significant, after getting nearly killed by the person he considered his own brother, waking up in an empty room, his female teammate, the girl he had a crush on when he was a child and his own Jonin instructor, his father's student who he was supposed to call him Ni-chan, not being there when he woke up, at the time he was disappointed, hurt, bitter and feeling unworthy of his team for failing to bring their wayward emo teammate.

His inferiority-complex was sky rocketing at the time. sigh, he really had only the bare minimum when it came to self worth, not only in his childhood and teen years but for the entirety of his first life. His readiness to jump into dangerous situations and all but sacrifice himself wasn't solely born from the goodness of his heart but also from him feeling unworthy.

It was only Jiraya, his dear godfather, who abandoned him for 12 years and never told him about their relationship nor about his parents, only to die three years later at the hand of his beloved student.
It was only Jiraya, who was lounging out of his hospital room, futilely trying and failing to convince him against getting Sasuke back.

He really should have listened.
