I opened the heavy doors, my eyes met James' hateful ones and behind him Arthur gave me a smirk but it was a concerned look on William's face that alarmed me.
'Patricia, step out from this room with me now.' James commanded me and I gulped with fear because his voice doesn't hold that love which I am usually familiar with.
'No, I want to speak to you about ill-treatment given by Arthur -' I began to argue but was cut short by James's glare.
'Don't ask me to repeat myself twice, Patricia.' William replied curtly. I didn't answer but silently followed him out on the ship's deck.
Standing near the ship's rail, James' hand gestured to come closer.
With treacherous waves, tossing the vessel violently, I feared for the worst.
'You betrayed me and dishonoured the conditional love which I possess for you. If I knew about promiscuous ways beforehand then I would never ask for your hand in marriage.' said William sadly.
'James, why are you falsely accusing me? Please look at me. ' I spoke softly. His words were tearing me apart. He, the true love of my life by giving me a chance to defend myself, directly accused me of adultery.
'I am sorry for my later actions. This should be a lesson for everyone who will cheat on me. No man or woman will disgrace my greatness again.' Still gazing at the waves stirring in the seas he spoke these words coldly.
'I never cheated on you. It was Arthur -.' My words were cut off by the blinding pain in my stomach. Lowering my head, I saw my clothes were drenched with blood and helplessly watched William removing a bloodied silver dagger from my lower abdomen.
'James...' I called out his name accusingly as the seawater dragged me down to her ice-cold embrace.
My mind was numb and my heart was aching, playing the last few moments of my life. The searing pain, emotionless look on James's face, leering face of Arthur and with my last draw of breath I saw the loving face of William.
'William ....'
Loud waves, ravens' croaking & roaring wind were making my ears bleed with pain. My eyes shot open, panicking as I surveyed my surroundings. Sitting on the beach, my head was spinning. Something felt different, I raised my hand and was astonished by the glowing white skin.
'Patricia...'
I was startled at the delicate feminine voice calling my name. I stood at the lightning speed, stun of the lightness of my body. I ran towards the sea to see my reflection. I couldn't recognise the image reflecting back at me.
My hair was shining black, my skin was pearl white and lips ruby red, although the eerie look which I care about was very disturbing.
'Patricia, my child.' spoke the same unknown voice.
I turned and found a woman radiating with heavenly beauty staring at me.
Long silvery hair braid perfectly covered with precious stones. Her eyes were bright seafoam green combining with her lips pink pouty lips makes her both angel as well as the seductive devil.
'Who are you?' I carefully asked her, even though my voice consisted of a sweet melodic tone.
'I am the guardian of the in-between and you are lost, my child. I would help you to find your true path but it depends on your desires.' she replied calmly. Her serene beauty washed away all my anxieties & fears.
'I don't understand. Who am I? Why am I here? I know there's something, but it is difficult to understand.' I replied hurriedly fearing that if I don't blurt out all the puzzling questions then I dread that the time will run out and everything will disappear like it never existed in the first place.
'I will help you. Please understand what happened is very unfortunate. Given the choices you will have to choose won't be simple.'
'I just want to understand. Help me.'
'Patricia, I truly sorry for your early demise and I hope I can help you towards the next step.'
After that statement, she told me the whole story. I remember the pain, fear, hurt, and utmost betrayal by my betrothed. William, the one I felt truly but was blindsided by James fake affection.
Hours passed by; my angelic guardian didn't utter a single sound. I appreciate her kindness yet my heart desires revenge.
'What should I have to do?' I asked her. Sensing my serious note in my voice she gave me a sympathetic look.
'You can break free by choosing one path. Let me caution you first about the paths which will draw out when you come upon a final decision. Firstly, it won't be easy because nothing will be mapped out for you. Secondly, you have to face a lot of obstacles which will be very difficult to cope with it. Finally, your rational mind will be manipulated with certain emotions which can turn out to be fatal.'
'I am ready.' I answered instantly. Although her warnings are very true and effective, nothing can stop me from achieving my goal.
The guardian came close, lifting her and she traced her long finger on my left cheek. Her light touch left a delicious burn on my facial skin. She smiled at me like a moon shining her bright beam through the dark clouds and embracing as well as guiding you through the lonely path at night. With my whole heart I dearly hoped to stay with her instead of going back to the real world but it is impossible now. Maybe later or fate woven it in my favour then sooner.
'My beautiful one, I really wish you could stay with me too. Alas! It is not your time yet.' The mesmerized guardian spoke heavily because her eyes speak louder than the untold words.
I was shocked by her reply but I knew she could read me well. But that didn't move me as much as the seriousness behind it. She meant when she asked me to stay.
'Patricia, you have to choose between murdering your betrayer or accepting the true love's kiss.' She stated the condition and all I wanted to torture and bestow the horrible death on James.
'Take me back. I know what to do.' I informed her firmly by leaving no place for an argument.
'As you say, my child. Patricia, choose wisely.'
With those last departing words, I stepped into the ghostly portal and found my standing on the cliff. James's ship was sailing smoothly while the shouts of merriments echoed in the silent night.
My eyes searched for James but found William. Sadness grew in me, wanting to feel the warmth of William's body around me.
Loud anguished howl distracted from my beautiful dream. James in his drunken state, bloodshot eyes, greyish tint to his skin as he walked around the ships with a bottle of rum on his hand. He was crying for mercy and forgiveness for his sins to be redeemed. To break the cycle of the curse which he brought upon himself. I know what he is seeing over and over again. The numbness that I carried has been gone, seeing him relived my death played every day on that exact time. An endless circle of unredeemable punishment which James has to bear till his timely demise.
I was so lost in the excitement that I was unaware of someone watching me. My eyes shifted and out of nowhere met William's beautiful green-blue eyes which were staring boldly. There was a shift in the air when unspoken words passed through us.
I turned away, my love for William was formidable but I remained scared to act upon it. He didn't stand by my side and shield me from the horrible yet unjustly act of violence.
'Patricia!' William shouted my name out loud but I chose to ignore him. He doesn't deserve my love either.
'Patricia, I will find you. You are mine now.' He said in the top of his voice, so that his promise is clear and audible for me to hear.
I glanced last time upon him, this time it will be, I, who will make all men beg and plead for life. I am neither alive nor dead yet the rage burns in my very soul and thirst for cutthroat kill or kills. Is it diabolical of me to feel horny as I lay my naked body in the pool of their warm blood pouring from a dead corpse?
James, my darling betrothed here I come...
