"It's almost the end of the line... for me anyway, I just have one last thing to do before I'm ready and I'll do anything to achieve that goal... Dex has done so much for me, it's about time I return the favor. This group... These people.... 6 of us, and Coco are like family, the best one I've had since... Well what I'm trying to say is that they had my back throughout it all, now it's time to have theirs for once, now that there is a lead on where Dex's parents are I... I gotta let him know, it's been his mission since the start to either find them or find closure... I'm not dying without a fight and knowing the others are safe... I guess this is the start of the journey home... my journey home... mom... dad... I'm coming, I did all I can..."
Mel held a hand on her wound as her and Knox walked through the charred remains of the colony. The small fishing village is now a corpse of the past as they search for clues and survivors. Knox looked at the walker corpse on the ground by him, almost unrecognizable. Mel looked around and said, "where the hell are the walkers?" Knox looked at the cliff and walked up to it, he looked off into the Pacific and saw bodies floating around, and corpses. "Found the bodies..." Mel slowly walked up to the cliff and looked off and saw nothing but blood and bodies and the muffled moans of walkers. "They must have had nowhere else to go other than off the cliff." Knox took in the sight for another moment and said to Mel, "crazy how these dumb bastard took the world." Mel looked at him with a weak and faint smile due to blood loss and said, "never saw a man of God talk and act the way you do." Knox pulled his collar off and said, "I lost faith a long time ago, now it's just something to remind me of the past... I think this is just God's weird way of either getting rid of us or changing us... judgment day has passed no matter what it is."
Mel began to lose her balance as she walked back and without saying anything they walked out of the burnt colony. Small fires still burnt, piles of bodies and ash were all around, Mel didn't look back for a second as they walked down the path. They began to cross the empty bridge that was untouched, a strange silence filled the city, though they felt as if they were being watched. Nothing was stopping them at that point in time
Mel and Knox were walking through the city where they found where the group was camped out for the night. Mel and Knox looked at the building for a second as Mel began to pick up the pace down the street. Knox followed, he pulled a letter out of his pocket and looked at it for a second and put it back and picked up the pace. Mel saw a walker walk to her as she held her knife out and killed it. Mel came across the two horses from the colony that they took with their wagon, Mel walked up to them with her hand out, "hey! You remember me? It's okay." Mel pet the well trained horses as she handed one off to Knox, they climbed on and rode off. Mel gripped the reins hard to make sure she won't fall off due to her injuries. Mel and Knox kept riding for a couple of hours, another hour, another. They passed through the ruins of Seattle, it was never going to work out there, Mel knew that, they needed to move forward if they were to ever make it.
As time passed until they reached Oregon. Mel and Knox stopped at the border and looked ahead, Mel smiled and said, "Now we begin the journey home..." Mel had her horse go almost full speed, Knox followed, they were going fast down the street. They listened to the sound of horse hooves hitting the ground, birds chirping, the sun was shining, trees were blooming, it was getting warmer out as time passed. Knox looked around at the walkers eating corpses around them, Mel just took in the beautiful sights to see as the old world slowly was taken over by the new world. Mel and Knox saw a blockade on the street and decided to take the fields next to them, they pushed through, mud flying up from the ground. They rode fast through the empty streets outside the fields, Oregon was a dead state, not much was left after the fall so there was hardly any walkers or people. Mel looked off at the sun that was over their head lighting the way.
