"New year, new me." That's such a load of crap and everyone knows it. Sure a new time period can make someone change their appearance or how they see themselves, but no one actually sticks to their resolution. But not me, I vow to let the good times come and just go with the flow. That's right, I'm just going to take it easy this year, slide my way through graduation or the rest of this beer can I'm holding in my hand, whichever comes first.

"Rose!" My teammate calls to me. That's Holly by the way. She likes to party, I don't necessarily do, but she promised me a fun night since I was in desperate need of one.

"Over here!" The perky red head calls over to the kitchen. She's standing by the island of whoever a house were in and hands me a bottle of vodka.

"What's this for?" I yell over the blasting music.

"It looks like your face got hit by a soccerball. Loosen up a little bit! Have some fun!" She slurs. She's way more gone then I am, and shit she was my ride home.

"No thanks I'm good." I hand the vodka back to her. She shrugs and tries to drink all of it. Which was an interesting sight to see since half of the contents of the bottle went onto her short purple shimmery dress.

"WOOOOOHOOO!" She screams throwing her hands into the air. That's when I decide to leave her there, drenched in alcohol, in the kitchen. I guess you could say I'm a bad friend for just leaving her in the kitchen alone, but she was bringing the wrong kid of attention to her. The last thing I needed was more chaos to my life right now.

I wander my way around the house in search of a bathroom. I spot the usual; horny people, drunk people, high people, and all of the above. I finally spot a bathroom and lock the door. the music is blasting throughout walls and is giving me a slightly bad migraine. So I naturally decide to drink more beer. I feel the cold liquid slide down my throat and it makes me get goosebumps all over my body. I start to feel a little cold, so I pull my maroon dress down a little and fix myself. Turning on the faucet, I damp my face with a little bit of cold water. That's when I catch a glimpse of her. She looks like she hasn't slept in days, the rings under her eyes can tell she's been through hell and back. Her naturally wavy dark brown hair is in a million little knots that would take years to get out. There was no point in trying to fix it, since it was already screwed up enough. The once honey brown eyes that were once filled with joy, are now filled with sorrow and depression to match her skeleton-like body. In other words, she looked like a hot mess. No seventeen year old girl should ever look this... Ghostly.

I look at her again. Oh yeah that's right, that girl is me. My fingertips touch the mirror to make sure that image was indeed real.

What would he think about how you look right now?

The voice in my head asks me. I hate that stupid voice. It's always wrong.

I'm startled by the loud yelling down the hall by the intoxicated people. So I quickly grab the rest of my drink, unlock the door an see what's going on outside the privacy of the bathroom. I try to catch up with Holly again, but she's passed out on a couch.

Everyone chants counts together. I aim my attention towards the tv. I almost forgot why I'm here, of corse it's New Years.

Here's to ten things I love about you.

"TEN..."

You only live ten minutes away from me.

"NINE!..."

Nine was his favorite number.

"EIGHT!...."

He was eight when I first met him.

"SEVEN!..."

He loves 7/11 slushies, but only the blue and red ones.

"SIX!..."

Those stupid six pairs of shoes he only wears. I'll never actually understand it.

"FIVE!..."

He has five state titles for wrestling. I swear he loves those awards more than he loves me.

"FOUR!..."

He likes the fourth Harry Potter book the best.

"THREE!..."

Three years we would have been together...

"TWO!..."

'Two years and were outta here! Me and you against the world!' He promised me.

"ONE!..."

And of all of the things I listed, there's only one of you.

"HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

Everyone either hugs or kisses each other while I finish the rest of my beer. Fireworks light the sky and everyone is happy and excited to see what the new year has for them.

Holly wakes up and hands me whatever is left in her somewhat drunken bottle of vodka. I nod at her and finish it.

Cheers to the new year.

Hopefully this year will be somewhat as good as the past three years were.
