The next morning, Tony found Lucas going through his closet, looking for something to wear to school. The bags under his eyes told Tony that he hadn't gotten enough sleep. He knew that Nat leaving hurt him more than he would let on and his worry for Rhodey would be enough to keep him awake at night. He leaned against the doorway as he watched Lucas move around his room. A voice rang out in the room, notifying Tony that his son was on the phone with someone.
"Okay. How many chromosomes are in human cells?" The voice asked. Tony recognized it as Peter's sister, Lila. Lucas' eyes squinted as he thought for a moment before answering. "46."
They were studying for their Biology final today. The two teens did a group call with all of their friends to study for every final they had, but Lila tended to psych herself out when taking tests so Lucas decided to help her study before school started. He had quizzed her using the study guide they were given and she did well, only missing a few. Now it was her turn to quiz him.
"Very good! What are the sex chromosomes for females and males?" She asked next. Lucas was going to answer he finally saw his dad at his door. He jumped and put his hand to his chest. "Gah! Dad, announce yourself!" He exclaimed.
Tony laughed at his son before entering the room fully. "I'm just checking on you." Lucas furrowed his brows before walking to where his phone laid on his bed. "Lila, I'll see you at school, okay?"
"Yeah. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah. It's my dad. I'll text you when I leave." He said as he closed his closet after grabbing his Vans. Tony sat on the edge of the bed, listening to the two talk.
"Okay." Lila said. There was a pause before she continued, "Peter asks if you can bring his English essay with you. He said he left it at your house when you guys came back from the trip." Lucas looked around his room before narrowing in on a paper on his desk. He held it up and saw Peter's name on it. He stuffed it in his book bag before putting on his shoes. "I got it. Bye Sweets."
"Bye."
As she hung up, Tony turned to his son with a slight smile on his face. "'Sweets?'" Lucas rolled his eyes as he felt his face blush. "It's a nickname. Don't you give people nicknames?" He said back. "Did you need something, Father Dearest?"
"I'm taking you to school."
Lucas froze. Tony never took him to school. The last time he did, Lucas was five and afraid to go to kindergarten by himself. "You never take me to school." He stated suspiciously. "Either Happy does or I take the train. What did you do?"
Tony scoffed at the accusation. "I didn't do anything. Can I not take my son to school?" Lucas stared at him for a minute before nodding hesitantly. "Do you even know where it is?"
"I enrolled you there, Luke. Of course I know where it is."

Tony didn't know where the school was.His pride refused to let him use FRIDAY or GPS, making Lucas ten minutes late. Luckily, first period had at started yet.
On the way there, Tony was weirdly quiet and it bothered Lucas. Usually his dad would have something to talk about, whether it was a new project or music choices. Finally he had enough of the awkward silence and turned to his father.
"Okay. What is wrong with you? You usually have something to say and the silence is bothering me."
Tony took his eyes off the road to glance at Lucas before sighing. "Its...I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry!"
Lucas looked at him in confusion. "What?"Tony rolled his eyes. "Are you really going to make me say it again? I'm sorry. I'm sorry about Pepper and-and Natasha. I'm sorry about not having taken you to school since you were five and that one time you got lost at IKEA-"
"You mean when you left me there?"
"That's besides the point. I'm apologizing. Don't interrupt me. I'm sorry about everything." Tony said sincerely. Lucas continued to stare at his father. His father didn't apologize often so when he did, Lucas took it seriously.
"It's not your fault." Lucas paused and thought about what he said. "Well, the IKEA incident was, but not Nat. She made her choice and she knew what she got herself into. She doesn't blame you and I don't either. And Pepper...she'll come around. She likes yelling at you." Tony snorted and looked at his son.
"I'm not sure about that. I've given her enough almost heart attacks for a life time." Lucas laughed and looked out the window. They finally pulled up to the front of the school. "I think one more is good for the soul right?" Lucas laughed as he opened the car door. Tony smiled at him.
"Good luck on your test." He said before Lucas could close the door. "Thanks. I'll see you later." With that, Lucas closed the car door and ran inside hoping he wouldn't get caught in the hall sweep for being late.
