Chapter 20

The next day, Lucas sat in Lila's bedroom wrapping a gift. Their friends decided to do Secret Santa amongst themselves and Lucas had MJ. He wasn't sure what to get her but he knew she loved reading and true crime, so why not combine the two?

He bought her a copy of Cain's Jawbone, a book where the pages are out of order so that the reader must solve the murder mystery and put them in order. Lucas hoped she liked it.

Once he was finished, he made his way to the living room where everyone was waiting. May had made hot chocolate and sugar cookies for them before she left for work. Lucas took a cup and sat in the circle with the rest of his friends.

"Okay, I think we should just go in a circle, so my right." Gwen said, "Peter, you're up." Peter nodded and announced that he had Harry, gifting him a Walkman and some mix tapes. Where Peter even found one, Lucas would never know, but Harry seemed to love it.

It went on like this until everyone was finished.

Harry had Ned and gave him a Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon set to build. The Filipino boy nearly fainted from excitement.

Ned had Lila and bought her new sheet music to play on her piano.

Lila had Gwen and got her a photo album full of pictures of the two from childhood to now. Gwen shed an actual tear. Lucas and Harry didn't think that was possible.

Gwen had Lucas and got him tickets to a Arctic Monkeys, one of his favorite bands, concert. She not so subtly suggested he take Lila for a date.

Lucas gave MJ her present and her eyes lit up. "How did you know I've been wanting this book for years?" Lucas laughed and shrugged. "I guessed, since you like books and true crime."

Finally, MJ had Peter and she got him a mini chem set, since she noticed that he was always experimenting in class. She hadn't known of course that he was making web fluid, though. "Maybe one day you can teach me how to make a concoction or something. We'll have Ned be our lab rat."

Lucas raised an eyebrow and shared a look with his girlfriend. Did MJ indirectly ask him out? By the blush on Peter's face, he thought she did too. "Uh, yeah, totally!"

"Wait," Ned butted in, "why am I the lab rat?"

"Because Harry unfortunately would know better than help us make something potentially dangerous."

"I've learned my lesson after nearly going blind because of Gwen and Lucas." Harry muttered.

"But what if the concoction makes me turn evil?" Ned asked, suddenly scared. It was silent for a moment before MJ shrugged. "It was nice knowing ya."

Everyone laughed at Ned's terrified expression and continued to laugh and talk. Soon, Lila pulled Lucas away from the group and to her room. "I have something for you." She said as she dug through her bedside table.

Lucas sat on the edge of her bed and smiled as she sat next to him. "I have something for you too." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a jewelry box. Lila tilted her head at it and handed him the gift.

She had a bit of a hard time finding something for Lucas. He wasn't a materialistic person, so she went a more sentimental route. Lucas opened the box before smiling widely.

"At first I didn't know what to get you, but then I remembered that you're a sucker for sentimental things." Lila said quietly as Lucas pulled out a brown leather bracelet. "Do you remember what you said to me at that hotel in DC?"

"I don't know, I said a lot of things that day." Lucas said playfully. Lila rolled her eyes and smiled. "You told me that you'd never met me sink beneath the waves. You said you would always be there for me, no matter what. I want you to know that I will always be there for you too. No matter what."

Lucas gave her a teary eyed smile. "Even when I inevitably do something stupid?" Lila laughed and kissed his cheeks. "Yes, even when you do something stupid. You're stuck with me, Tuts."

"Good." Lucas smiled. He handed her the jewelry box and watched silently as Lila opened the box and took out the necklace he bought. Noticing the Roman numeral etched into the silver metal, she put the date together. September 20, 2013.

"Is this..."

"The day we met. First day of sixth grade. You had these little butterfly clips in your hair and a band aid on your cheek. 12 year old me thought you were the prettiest girl I ever saw. I still do."

Lila couldn't help but blush. She had that band aid on her cheek because she and Peter had been fighting/wrestling each other the day before and she got a rug burn from the carpet.

"I love you, Lila." Lucas said with a confident smile. "I'm pretty sure I loved you when I watched you practically inhale like three smarties packs in one sitting. I've loved you for what feels like forever and I'll love you even more after that."

"I love you too, Lucas." Lila smiled sweetly before the two shared a loving kiss. A sudden explosion from outside broke the two apart suddenly. Running into the living room, Lucas saw everyone crowding around the windows to see what happened.

Another explosion went off and all of a sudden, the lights went out. "What is going on?!" Gwen shouted. Electronic dings and loud vibrations went off in the room next. For a split second, Lucas thought he was getting an Amber Alert.

The group of friends pulled out their phones and stared in shock. The screens looked like static on a tv and soon, a voice began to speak.

"Good afternoon, New York! I hope you all had a very merry Christmas, I know I did! Now, I'm sure you all heard those explosions and you're probably wondering 'what the heck?'. Don't worry, they're just my way of getting everyone's attention. But, there's on person in particular who I really want to talk to."

Lucas looked at Peter out of the corner of his eye.

"Our very own friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Come out, come out wherever you are!"

Consider this the epilogue of part one! On to the next!

I don't remember if Lila and Lucas said ily to each other but if not this is the first. They are definitely the "he loves her more" trope. Also if I said they first met at another time... forget that.

It's the way I want to write a family avengers fic... I really shouldn't lol I barely update the ones I have ongoing now.
