Nishinoya sighed as he walked down the hallway, going back to his dorm after finishing with classes for the day. He was bored and all of his friends were busy, his luck was just amazing, he thought. Thankfully, they had volleyball practice later, but right now it was 1PM, and the practice was at 7PM. He had so much time, but nothing to do. Well, he could always study, or do homework... but he would rather sleep than do that. He also had a few books to read by the end of the month, but he didn't really care, and he planned on procrastinating until the week they're due.
Soon he reached his dorm that he shared with his best friend, Tanaka. He was thankful that he managed to get a dormwith his friend, and not some boring person who would only sleep and study. And unfortunately for Noya, Tanaka was in class, and he wouldn't be free at all during the day. It felt like agony for him to not be able to hang out with anybody! He was an extrovert and he was used to always being with someone.
Right when he was in front of the doors of his dorm room, somebody yelled his name. It was Daichi, and he was awkwardly running up to him with a big box in his arms.
"Yuu! Do me a favor, please?" Daichi asked, approaching his shorter friend and pretty much handing him the box before the boy had any time to process what was happening.
"What am I supposed to do with this? It's kind of heavy, what is in there?!" Noya complained, hesitantly taking the cardboard box. Daichi sighed. „Well, it's a package that I had to get for a friend. He lives off campus, but it's a ten minute walk, I promise. If you could please bring this to him, I would be so thankful!"
Well, he didn't really have a choice now that he was holding the package in his arms. He would make Daichi pay some time in the near future, but he ended up saying yes to being a part time postman, this time. It was Daichi, after all, so he would've helped nonetheless. After getting the adress, Noya dropped off his books and his bag to his room and then went outside, to deliver the mysterious box!
It took him a bit more than ten minutes to arrive at the right location, and it was probably because his legs were a lot shorter than Daichi's, plus, he was carrying a package for god's sake! Cursing at Daichi in his mind, he finally entered the elevator, he put the box on the floor, resting his arms a little bit. He wasn't sure if he had ever heard of the guy Daichi had told him about, but was sure it was some crazy dude if he had his friend bring him such a heavy package! Soon, he reached the sixth floor of the building and went to the door with the number he got from his friend. He rang the bell, impatiently waiting for a response.
Soon, a taller (duh, obviously he was taller!), hipster looking man opened the door, looking down at Noya with a slightly confused expression. „Uh, are you.. Azumane Asahi?" Noya asked, and he got a nod from the man in front of him. He looked pretty shy for a person his size. „Yeah, that's me! I'm guessing.. Daichi sent you here?" Asahi asked softly. His voice was very gentle and the tone in which he talked was just...soft. Noya thought that maybe it was a bit creepy to think about a stranger's voice immediately.
„Yup! Daichi stopped me from getting my precious rest because he couldn't make it." Nishinoya spoke dramatically, and Asahi immediately took the package from the shorter man's arms, looking a little worried. „I'm so sorry that you had to bring it all the way to here! He could've just called me and I'd come get it..." He shook his head and sighed. „Thank you so much, you should come in for a cup of coffee, or tea. As a thank you, of course."
Noya didn't think twice before deciding he was going to stay for a drink. He already had no idea what to do, so hanging out with his friend's friend wasn't a bad idea. He obviously didn't want to sound like a weirdo, so he couldn't just say 'that would be amazing' and come in. So, insted, Noya said: „Oh, are you sure you don't mind having me? I mean, I don't wanna waste your time!" Asahi immediately shook his head and stepped away from the door frame, making space for Noya to come in. „No, not at all! I don't mind it, really. I haven't had proper human contact in quite a while, studying medicine and all... And today I finally have some free time, but I don't know how to use it." He mumbled.
Nishinoya walked in, taking off his shoes. He completely forgot to introduce himself, he thought. „Oh, I haven't introduced myself yet... I'm Nishinoya Yuu! You can call me whatever, though, Asahi-san." The shorter male grinned, and followed Asahi into the apartment. It looked nice, but it was small, and he had a lot of papers everywhere which made him look like he only ever studied. He was a medicine student, after all.
Noya sat down on the couch, humming to himself a little bit while Asahi was in the kitchen, just a few meters away from Noya. „Tea or coffee?" Asahi asked. Noya's answer was obvious for pretty much everyone – coffee. He wasn't the biggest fan of leaf soup, only enjoying bean soup. Soon, the coffee was finished, and it smelled pretty nice. Asahi put the cup on the table in front of Nishinoya and sat on a chair near him.
He took a sip of coffee, burning his tongue a little bit, but he liked the taste. „This is some good coffee! Thank you!" He said and Asahi chuckled a little. „Oh, I'm glad you like it. Anyway, uh, Nishinoya-kun, what year are you?" The taller man asked, taking a sip of his own coffee, looking straight into Noya's eyes. His gaze was somewhat... calm, and peaceful. Not intense at all. It was nice. „I'm a first year, though, I'm college just 'cause I wanna do volleyball! That's pretty much my only passion."
„Oh, really? I mean, you are Daichi's friend, I'm guessing you're on the team together?" Asahi said and Noya nodded. They talked a bit about volleyball, and apparently Asahi enjoyed playing as well, every now and then. He seemed like a great guy, Noya thought, and he was pretty good looking. For some reason he found Asahi to be very cute. He seemed quite a bit older, though. „How old are you, Asahi-san?" He was hoping the question wouldn't come off as rude or anything like that. „Oh, I'm twenty-three! And you?" Asahi asked with a small tilt of his head to the side. Noya quickly answered. „I'm nineteen! I thought you were younger! But that's cool, you aren't an old man or anything." He joked a bit.
They spent quite a bit of time chatting. It was fun, Asahi was very chill to be around. Noya enjoyed his presence and he wanted to spend more time with him in the future as well. „Well, Asahi-san... thank you for the coffee! Next time we see each other, hopefully I won't be bringing boxes to you." Noya half-joked, making Asahi apologize once more, even though it was not his fault at all. „Sorry, Nishinoya-kun! I wasn't...expecting he'd make you do it." They laughed it off, considering Noya didn't actually mind it, and soon their conversation came to an end. And Noya had realized that he had pretty much told the man that he wants them to see each other again, fuck. What if he takes it the wrong way?
„It was nice having you, Nishinoya-kun-" Asahi spoke, but Noya cut him off. „Asahi-san! You can just call me Noya, please." Asahi just nodded, and repeated. „Alright, Noya-kun..." He said and it made Noya's smile turn into a big grin. „Good! Well, see you around?" „See you around." Asahi smiled before the smaller man left the apartment.
Noya thought that Asahi was super cool. But he felt it would be weird if he asked for his phone number, he wasn't going to date him, obviously! He just wanted to perhaps spend more time with him in the future. He wouldn't deny that Daichi had cute friends, but... it was too early to know if Noya liked him or felt anything like that.
That evening, right before volleyball practice, Daichi walked up to Noya and pat him on the back. „Good job! Thank you for carrying all those books to Asahi for me. I'm sure he made you stay for coffee or something. He probably felt bad you had to carry those to him." Noya wasn't shocked that his friend could guess exactly what happened. Asahi had a very nice personality, obviously his friends could read him easily. „Yeah, that's exactly what happened! He's super cool, and he's smart! Plus, he likes volleyball. We should ask him to come to on of our practices, I wanna know how good he is!" Noya jumped around, hyped for the practice, as always. Daichi let out a small chuckle. „Well, I doubt he has time for that, considering he is studying medicine. That takes up a lot of his time." Noya felt a bit bad for the guy now. He couldn't imagine studying more than he does right now. But that's probably what Asahi wanted, though. „Well.. that sucks, but surely we can hang out, right?" Daichi raised an eyebrow. „You like Asahi? Honestly, I didn't expect you to get along, you're polar opposites." Well, Noya got why Daichi thought that way, but he really liked Asahi, it was just calming to be near him.
Soon enough, they started practice, and Noya had a lot of fun, but he got pretty tired for the day. Time passed, and he almost forgot about Asahi's existence, until two weeks later.
