It was 4:34 PM and Vanessa still didn't come to work. What the hell?! She was supposed to be here at 3 o'clock. I checked my phone quickly to see if she texted me or something. There was a message.
Vanessa: I'm sorry I couldn't come I had to go to the hospital
Emma: Are you alright????
Vanessa: Not really. I called Vikki to come in my place.
Emma: Alright... Get some rest
Emma: Gtg. A customer is coming
I leaned on the counter and just stood there until a customer came. I didn't look at them at first because I went to wash my hands, then I went to take their order.
'What can I help you with si-' I said stopping in my tracks. 'Magnus?!'
'Oh.' he said, surprised. 'Hello.' he said, giving me a mean look.
'So, can you tell me what happened?' I asked him.
'Aren't you at work?' he snarled at me.
'It's the end of my shift. You can stay for 5 more minutes, right?' I said, noticing Vikki come through the door.
He just sighed and took a seat at the booth. I've never seen him so cold. What's gotten into him?
'So, what would you like for today?' I asked.
'A cappuccino.' said Magnus grumpily. 'No sugar, please.'
I went and made him a cappuccino. It was done in no time. I even made a leaf on top. I put it on the counter in front of him. He looked at it and gave me a five dollar bill. I took it and put it in the cash register. I also made myself an espresso and put it close to him. Then I took off my apron and hung it in the employee area.
When I got back Magnus was sipping from his cup, both hands on the cup. I sat next to him and took a sip from my coffee as well.
'Now...' I said slowly. 'Can you tell me what happened?' I asked him.
'What the hell do you have going on with Patrick?' he asked pissed.
'Hm?' I said confused. 'What do you mean by that?'. His accent was pretty tricky.
'What is your relations with that... man?' he asked.
'He's my best friend.' I said smiling. 'I've known him since we were very small. Why do you ask?'
'Has he always been like that?' he asked.
'Be more blunt, dude! I'm not a poet to read into every word.' I said taking the cup in my hand. 'Even Patrick knows how to talk properly without metaphors.'
'He's... y'know... into....' he said getting frustrated.
'He's?' I said trying to understand what he wanted to say.
'Gay.' he whispered getting close to my face.
'Would that be a problem if he is?' I asked, raising an eyebrow.
'Yes!' he said, frowning a little. 'He's a man... that loves other men?!'
'Yeah, so?' I said, putting my hands on the counter. 'Y'know what! He told me what happened.'
He looked a bit confused at me. What the hell was his problem? Why would his sexual orientation be a problem in a friendship? In a damn friendship?!
'What the hell is your damn problem? Has he tried anything on you? Has he made you uncomfortable in any way?' I asked him bluntly.
'He didn't.' he said, still pissed, but looking at his cappuccino.
